Bible Questions Answered: Apostles Creed

Bible Questions Answered:
Who wrote the Apostles Creed?
Warren/ Portland, Oregon

Bible Answer:

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day
He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

This creed, used mostly by the following churches: Catholic, Lutheran, Anglican, Western Orthodox,Presbyterian, Methodist, Arian, Unitarian, and Congregationalists.

This creed is not acceptable by some because it does not discuss the divinity of Jesus Christ, or of the Holy Spirit.

This creed, was “not,” written by the Apostles!
No ecclesiastical writer, church father or Luke, or any other, mentions an “Apostles Creed,” before the fifth century!
Origin and date of the creed are unknown.

Some one has said that the creed was taken from scripture, as the following....

“I believe in God the Father Almighty”; (Peter)
“Maker of heaven and earth” (John)
“And in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord” (James)
“Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary” (Andrew)
“Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified dead and buried”; (Philip)
“He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead”; (Thomas)
“He ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty”; (Bartholomew)
“from whence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.” (Matthew)

Other phrases contributed by: James (the son of Alpheus), Simon Zelotes, Jude and Matthias.
