Bible Questions Answered: Worship

Bible Questions Answered:
“My friend took me to her church last Sunday, seemed like everybody was clapping or something, boy was it noisy-what do you think?'
Helen/ Manila, Philippines

Bible Answer:

In the House of the Lord, we need to be respectful, full of reverence, that is all true, but hardly means we are to be lifeless and numb.

The house of the Lord should have its time of:

Reverence:
Psalm 89:7 KJV
God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about Him.

Silence:
Habakkuk 2:20 KJV
But the LORD is in His holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before Him.

Kneeling and prayer:
Psalm 95:6 KJV
O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.

Matthew 21:13 KJV
And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer..."

Hearing the Word of God:
Matthew 4:4 KJV
But He answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Romans 10:17 KJV
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

And yet, this is not the end of the matter, for although all this is called for and that well, yet there is another side to the worship of our Lord, else we would not read of it in His word!
Remember well, praises, clapping of hands, singing and playing music, shouts of joy in the Lord, are “not,” irreverent to Him, as to the traditions of men, that is another matter.
Make the Word of God, you're bond.

The Word of the Lord: (Israel, the early church, and scenes from heaven itself.)

Judges 5:1,3 KJV
1 Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying,
3 Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the LORD; I will sing praise to the LORD God of Israel.

I Chronicles 9:33 NLT
The musicians, all prominent Levites, lived at the Temple. They were exempt from other responsibilities since they were on duty at all hours.

I Chronicles 15:16-22,27,28 NLT
16 David also ordered the Levite leaders to appoint a choir of Levites who were singers and musicians to sing joyful songs to the accompaniment of harps, lyres, and cymbals.
17 So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel along with his fellow Levites: Asaph son of Berekiah, and Ethan son of Kushaiah from the clan of Merari.
18 The following men were chosen as their assistants: Zechariah, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, and the gatekeepers—Obed-edom and Jeiel.
19 The musicians Heman, Asaph, and Ethan were chosen to sound the bronze cymbals.
20 Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah were chosen to play the harps.
21 Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah were chosen to play the lyres.
22 Kenaniah, the head Levite, was chosen as the choir leader because of his skill.
27 David was dressed in a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who carried the Ark, and also the singers, and Kenaniah the choir leader. David was also wearing a priestly garment.
28 So all Israel brought up the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant with shouts of joy, the blowing of rams’ horns and trumpets, the crashing of cymbals, and loud playing on harps and lyres.

I Chronicles 25:6-8 NLT
6 All these men were under the direction of their fathers as they made music at the house of the Lord. Their responsibilities included the playing of cymbals, harps, and lyres at the house of God. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman reported directly to the king.
7 They and their families were all trained in making music before the Lord, and each of them—288 in all—was an accomplished musician.
8 The musicians were appointed to their term of service by means of sacred lots, without regard to whether they were young or old, teacher or student.

II Chronicles 20:18,19,21 NLT
18 Then King Jehoshaphat bowed low with his face to the ground. And all the people of Judah and Jerusalem did the same, worshiping the Lord.
19 Then the Levites from the clans of Kohath and Korah stood to praise the Lord, the God of Israel, with a very loud shout.
21 After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising Him for His holy splendor. This is what they sang: “Give thanks to the Lord; His faithful love endures forever!”

Ezra 3:11 KJV
And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because He is good, for His mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the LORD..."

Psalm 47:1 KJV
O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.

Psalm 63:1-4 KJV
1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
3 Because thy loving kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.

Psalm 68:24-26 KJV
24 They have seen thy goings, O God; even the goings of my God, my King,
in the sanctuary.
25 The singers went before, the players on instruments followed after; among them were the damsels playing with timbrels.
26 Bless ye God in the congregations, even the Lord, from the fountain of Israel.

Psalm 81:1 KJV
Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.

Psalm 95:1,2 KJV
1 O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms.

Psalm 103:1 KJV
Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name.

Psalm 134:1-3 KJV
1 Behold, bless ye the LORD, all ye servants of the LORD, which by night stand
in the house of the LORD.
2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD.
3 The LORD that made heaven and earth bless thee out of Zion.

Psalm 150:1-6 KJV
1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in His sanctuary: praise Him in the firmament of His power.
2 Praise Him for His mighty acts: praise Him according to His excellent greatness.
3 Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet: praise Him with the psaltery and harp.
4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance: praise Him with stringed instruments and organs.
5 Praise Him upon the loud cymbals: praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals.
6 Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

Revelation 7:9-12 NLT

10 And they were shouting with a mighty shout, “Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne and from the Lamb!”
11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living beings. And they fell before the throne with their faces to the ground and worshiped God.
