Bible Lesson: Parables-Our Lord's-The Pounds

Bible Lesson: Parables-Our Lord's.
Parable: The Pounds.

Text:
Luke 19:10-27 KJV
10 For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
11 And as they heard these things, He added and spake a parable, because He was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.
12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.
15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.
16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.
17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.
19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.
20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:
21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.
22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:
23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?
24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.
25 (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)
26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.
27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

Luke 19:10-27 NLT
10 For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
Parable of the Ten Servants
11 The crowd was listening to everything Jesus said. And because He was nearing Jerusalem, He told them a story to correct the impression that the Kingdom of God would begin right away.
12 He said, “A nobleman was called away to a distant empire to be crowned king and then return.
13 Before he left, he called together ten of his servants and divided among them ten pounds of silver, saying, ‘Invest this for me while I am gone.’
14 But his people hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We do not want him to be our king.’
15 “After he was crowned king, he returned and called in the servants to whom he had given the money. He wanted to find out what their profits were.
16 The first servant reported, ‘Master, I invested your money and made ten times the original amount!’
17 “‘Well done!’ the king exclaimed. ‘You are a good servant. You have been faithful with the little I entrusted to you, so you will be governor of ten cities as your reward.’
18 “The next servant reported, ‘Master, I invested your money and made five times the original amount.’
19 “‘Well done!’ the king said. ‘You will be governor over five cities.’
20 “But the third servant brought back only the original amount of money and said, ‘Master, I hid your money and kept it safe.
21 I was afraid because you are a hard man to deal with, taking what isn’t yours and harvesting crops you didn’t plant.’
22 “‘You wicked servant!’ the king roared. ‘Your own words condemn you. If you knew that I’m a hard man who takes what isn’t mine and harvests crops I didn’t plant,
23 why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’
24 “Then, turning to the others standing nearby, the king ordered, ‘Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one who has ten pounds.’
25 “‘But, master,’ they said, ‘he already has ten pounds!’
26 “‘Yes,’ the king replied, ‘and to those who use well what they are given, even more will be given. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.
27 And as for these enemies of mine who didn’t want me to be their king—bring them in and execute them right here in front of me.’”

First of all, this is not, the same story as that of Matthew twenty five verses fourteen through thirty (The Parable of the Talents.)
The reasons are, that in this parable, one received five talents, another two talents and still another one talent.
In the parable of the pounds, all received the same amount of one pound.

The nobleman in our parable, represents the Lord Jesus Christ.
To dispel any ideas that His return, and the setting up of the Kingdom of God, would be imminent, He told this parable.

Biblical Order of Events:

Rapture of the Church, the Bride of Christ.
(Unseen by the world-
I Corinthians 15:51-58/ I Thessalonians 4:13-18)
Second Coming, (Seen by all-Luke 21:27/ Revelation 3:11)
Ending Armageddon, (Revelation 19:11-21)
Judging the nations, separating the Sheep from the Goats. (Matthew 16:27/
Matthew 25:31,32)
Millennial Kingdom (Isaiah 2:2-5/Micah 4:1-3)

Luke 19:12,13 KJV
12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

The Nobleman's giving here to His servants, no doubt represents the gifts our God has given to His people!

Christ, has indeed gone into “a far country,” (heaven), and what then are we doing with the “gifts,” that He has endowed us with?
In our parable, one received tens times, his original amount, another had his silver multiply by five times as much, and a third servant, did nothing.

The servant that had multiplied his original investment by ten times as much received a reward of governorship of ten cities, and then again because of the unprofitable servant, an extra pound of silver.

The servant who had multiplied his original investment by five times, became the governor of five cities.

While our Master is away, what are we doing with the talents He has entrusted to us?
Are we using our talents to bring Him, the praise and honor due to Him?
Are we bringing souls into His kingdom?

Matthew 3:8-10 NLT
8 Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God.
9 Don’t just say to each other, ‘We’re safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.’ That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones.
10 Even now the ax of God’s judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire.

Matthew 5:13-16 KJV
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Mark 4:14-20 KJV
14 The sower soweth the word.
15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.
16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;
17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,
19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
20 And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

John 15:8,16 KJV
8 Herein is My Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be My disciples.
16 Ye have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in My name, He may give it you.

I Timothy 4:14 KJV
"Neglect not the gift that is in thee..."

James 2:17,18 KJV (Not saved by, good works/ but then again not saved from doing them!)
17 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.
18 Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.”

Will our Lord one day say to you....

Matthew 25:35,36 KJV
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave Me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave Me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took Me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed Me: I was sick, and ye visited Me: I was in prison, and ye came unto Me.

John 9:4 KJV (Jesus said)
I must work the works of Him that sent Me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

The “Citizens,” spoken of in Luke nineteen verse fourteen, are thought by most to be the Jewish people, who did not want Him to reign over them.

Matthew 27:25,26 KJV
25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified.

Judgment arrives with the Second Coming of Christ!

Today, Jew or Gentile, the choice is ours alone, to be the sheep who follow the Shepherd or the rebellious wandering goats.

Luke 19:13 KJV
“Occupy till I come.”
