Bible Questions Answered: Redemption-First Reference

Bible Questions Answered:
I need to know where redemption is first mentioned in the Bible.
Jerrod/ Tulsa, Oklahoma

Bible Answer:

Popular belief has it that Genesis 3:15 is the first reference of redemption, but is not so.

Genesis 3:15 KJV
14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15 And I will put enmity (hostility) between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

God will put hostility, between the people of God, and the old serpent, Satan.
Her seed, a reference to, the virgin birth of Christ, through Mary.
He (Christ) shall bruise thy head (how to destroy a serpent), and thou shalt bruise His (Christ's) heel, death and the grave could not hold Him, to Him and Him alone is the victory!

Certainly a verse depicting the act of redemption, to be sure, but an earlier one is even more poignant.

Genesis 2:21-23 KJV
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made He a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

In the word, the first and the second Adam, is spoken of, Christ being the second Adam.

Romans 5:12-21 NLT
12 When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.
13 Yes, people sinned even before the law was given. But it was not counted as sin because there was not yet any law to break.
14 Still, everyone died—from the time of Adam to the time of Moses—even those who did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did. Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come.
15 But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift (Second Adam-Christ). For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and His gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ.
16 And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins.
17 For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and His gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.
18 Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.
19 Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.
20 God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant.
21 So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Adam, type of Christ:
The first Adam, was a fleshly son of God, Christ thee eternal Son of God (Isaiah 9:2 KJV)
The first Adam was in need of a help-meet, Christ desired His Church, His bride.
From his side, Adam, gave birth, to his wife, Eve, from His side, the second Adam gave birth to His wife, the Church.
The first Adam, willingly shared Eve's condemnation, (I Timothy 2:14), Christ willingly was made to be sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him (II Corinthians 5:21).

And much more could be said.

Blood and Water:
John 19:34 KJV
But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced His side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
(The birth and redemption of Christ's bride, the church.)

I John 5:5,6 KJV
5 Who is he that over cometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
6 This is He that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

I Peter 1:18,19 KJV
18 For asmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot:

Revelation 1:5,6 KJV
5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the Faithful Witness, and the First Begotten of the dead, and the Prince of the kings of the earth. Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood,
6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father; to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Flesh and Bones:
Ephesians 5:30 KJV
For we are members of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones.

Ephesians 5:23 NLT
23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of His body, the church.
25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up His life for her

Titus 2:13,14 KJV
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

I Peter 3:18 KJV
For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

Our Saviour, gave of His life, His body, that we the church, the bride of Christ, might be born, having been given life, and redemption.

I Corinthians 15:45-49 KJV
45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
47 The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.
48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
