Bible Lesson: Miracles Of Jesus-Cana-Water Into Wine

Bible Lessons: The Miracles of Jesus.

Miracle: Water turned into wine.

Location: Cana, a village of Galilee, approximately some four and one half miles N.E. Of Nazareth.

Text: John 2:1-11 KJV
1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:
2 And both Jesus was called, and His disciples, to the marriage.
3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto Him, They have no wine.
4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever He saith unto you, do it.
6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
8 And He saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth His glory; and His disciples believed on Him.

Our Saviour honored marriage, by His very presence!

The disciple, Peter was himself a married man (Luke 4:38)!
It is believed by most Bible scholars that the Apostle Paul, had been a married man, else he could not have been a member of the Sanhedrin.

Christ never called His men to a celibate monastic life!

Hebrews 13:4 KJV
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

I Corinthians 6:9,10 NLT
9 Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,
10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will
inherit the Kingdom of God.

I Timothy 4:1-3 NLT
1 Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.
2 These people are hypocrites and liars, and their consciences are dead.
3 They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth.
4 Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks.
5 For we know it is made acceptable by the word of God and prayer.

Some Bible scholars believe that by this time Christ's step father Joseph, had died, as he is not in the wedding story.

Mary, and Jesus, and His disciples (Numbering at leas five by this time.) had been invited to the wedding.

John 2:3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto Him, They have no wine.

It is thought by some, that Mary was invited to this wedding because, she was related to the bride or groom, and that may very well be so, and it would by necessity also be true then that she would feel a burden to help them.

This verse seems to shout out volumes, about the relationship of Mary and her son, Jesus.
Theologians, have by and large marked this story as Christ's first miracle.
In reality, it certainly is His first “recorded,” miracle.

Verse three, though, seems pregnant with the idea, that Mary knew all to well the capabilities of Jesus, perhaps by having observed them over his life growing up. (Apocryphal gospels ascribe miracles to the young Christ.)

If the Lord Jesus had done miracles, as a boy, a young man we have no record of it, as history concerning His youth, is silent.

John 2:4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

Jesus, never, called Mary, mother!
Jesus said, “Woman, what have I to do with thee? Mine hour is not yet come.

What hour?
The hour of his being sacrificed as God's sinless and pure Lamb.

The Nazarite Vow: (Samson, Samuel, and John the Baptist.)

Numbers 6:1-8 KJV (Read the chapter.)
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the LORD:
3 He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.
4 All the days of his separation shall he eat nothing that is made of the vine tree, from the kernels even to the husk.
5 All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separateth himself unto the LORD, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.
6 All the days that he separateth himself unto the LORD he shall come at no dead body.
7 He shall not make himself unclean for his father, or for his mother, for his brother, or for his sister, when they die: because the consecration of his God is upon his head.
8 All the days of his separation he is holy unto the LORD.

Christ was separated unto God.
It was not, His time to have anything to do with wine.
When His hour of fulfillment was over, He would,
and at the Lord's Supper, He did.

Matthew 26:26-29 KJV
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is My body.
27 And He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is My blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom.

John 2:5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever He saith unto you, do it.

What was this statement?
Some say, it was great faith on Mary's part.
Certainly she must have believed in miracles for Christ had no money!

Matthew 8:20 KJV
And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of Man hath not where to lay His head.

Matthew 17:24-27 KJV (No money to pay taxes.)
24 And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your Master pay tribute?
25 He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
26 Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
27 Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for Me and thee.

The Lord Jesus, was “not-pleased,” with her directive!
John 2:4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

From these words, a church and an organization has sprung up, which purports to put Mary as the sensitive, caring, feeling one, for all of humanity.

Oh, the deceptive wiles of the enemy!

(Friends be sure to order my newest book, “Salvation.”)

Acts 4:10-12 KJV
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

John 2:6-10 KJV

The God who warned in His word against strong drink and it's ruin (e.g. Proverbs 20:1; 23:31/ Ephesians 5:18) certainly did “not,” this day, create some potent alcoholic drink.
It either contained no alcohol, or very low alcohol.

What a wonderful story that assures the child of God, that our God can do anything!

Genesis 18:14 KJV
Is any thing too hard for the Lord?

If the Lord can cause a one hundred year old man, and his ninety year old wife to have a child, surely nothing is too hard for the Lord!

John 2:11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth His glory; and His disciples believed on Him.

Christ performed miracles for the faith of His followers to be increased.
And having read this story, may our faith rise to new heights!

Psalm 62:11 KJV
God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.

Daniel 3:17 KJV (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego)
If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

Matthew 19:26 KJV
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Luke 1:37 KJV
For with God nothing shall be impossible.
