Bible Questions Answered:
“What
doe it mean to be risen with Christ?...”
Julie/
St. Albert, Alberta Canada
Bible Answer:
Bible Texts:
Colossians
3:1-3 KJV
1 If
ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are
above, where Christ sitteth on The Right Hand Of God.
2
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
The
Biblical Key:
Galatians
2:20 KJV
I am
crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ
liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by
the faith of The Son Of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.
Was Paul crucified, no.
The Apostle Paul, here was referring to baptism, a type of death.
Paul was saying, his baptism, was a public symbol of him, dying to
sinful self (crucified with Christ), and rising in newness of resurrected (spiritual) life, in Christ.
Romans 6:3,4,8 KJV (Be sure to read the whole chapter.)
3
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ
were baptized into His death?
4
Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death: that like as
Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of The Father, even
so we also should walk in newness of life.
8
Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live
with him:
Romans
7:4-6 NLT
4
So, my dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the
power of the law when you died with Christ. And now you are united
with the one who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can
produce a harvest of good deeds for God.
5
When we were controlled by our old nature, sinful desires were at
work within us, and the law aroused these evil desires that produced
a harvest of sinful deeds, resulting in death.
6
But now we have been released from the law, for we died to it and are
no longer captive to its power. Now we can serve God, not in the old
way of obeying the letter of the law, but in the new way of living in
The Spirit.
Romans
8:11 KJV
But
if The Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you,
He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal
bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you.
Ephesians
2:4-6 NLT
4
But God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so much,
5
that even though we were dead because of our sins, He gave us Life
when He raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace
that you have been saved!)
6
For He raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with
Him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.
Our Lord commanded baptism for all believers. Baptism, is a public
confession that we have died to the old sinful self, and are risen up
into the newness of Christ's life.
Galatians
3:27 KJV
For
as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
The Lord Jesus:
Mark
16:16 KJV
He
that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth
not shall be damned.
A Few
Examples:
Acts
2:38 KJV
Then
Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the
name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive
The Gift Of The Holy Ghost.
Acts
2:41 KJV
Then
they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day
there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
Acts
8:12 KJV
But
when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom
of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men
and women.
Acts 16:28-33 KJV (The Philippian jailer.)
26
And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of
the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened,
and every one's bands were loosed.
27
And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the
prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed
himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
28
But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we
are all here.
29
Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and
fell down before Paul and Silas,
30
And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31
And they said, Believe on The Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be
saved, and thy house.
32
And they spake unto him The Word Of The Lord, and to all that were in
his house.
33
And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their
stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
Acts
18:8 KJV
And
Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on The Lord with
all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were
baptized.
Acts
19:4,5 KJV
4
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance,
saying unto the people, that they should believe on Him which should
come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of The Lord
Jesus.
Baptism is a public confession, as to what we believe.
Just as Christ was dead and then resurrected to life, and we are to
follow Him in spiritual death to self and the world, only to be
raised up, into the newness of the life of Christ, by the power of
God's Spirit.
COME,
HOLY SPIRIT, DOVE DIVINE
Come, Holy Spirit, Dove divine,
On these baptismal waters shine,
And teach our hearts, in highest strain,
To praise the Lamb for sinners slain.
We love Your name, we love Your laws,
And joyfully embrace Your cause;
We love Your cross, the shame, the pain,
O Lamb of God, for sinners slain.
We sink beneath the water’s face,
And thank You for Your saving grace;
We die to sin and seek a grave
With You, beneath the yielding wave.
And as we rise with You to live,
O let the Holy Spirit give
The sealing unction from above,
The joy of life, the fire of love.

Prayer:
Romans
10:8-10 KJV
8
But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in
thy heart: that is, The Word Of Faith, which we preach;
9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth The Lord Jesus, and
shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead,
thou shalt be saved.
10
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the
mouth confession is made unto salvation.
