Bible Questions Answered:
“Pastor, I have heard the phrase “the gospel of the poor.” What is this gospel?...”
Alex/ Chicago, Illinois U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:
All four gospels have references to or about the poor, and yet one gospel excels in it's stories concerning the poor, and that gospel ts the gospel of Luke.

The poor outcast shepherds of Bethlehem, Mary's praise of The Lord who cares for the poor and scoffs at the proud. The rich man and lazarus parable and many other stories.

The Poor;

The Poor, The Word:

Exodus 23:10,11 NLT
10 “Plant and harvest your crops for six years,
11 but let the land be renewed and lie uncultivated during the seventh year. Then let the poor among you harvest whatever grows on its own. Leave the rest for wild animals to eat. The same applies to your vineyards and olive groves.

Leviticus 19:9,10 NLT
9 “When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop.

Deuteronomy 15:7,8,10,11 NLT (Moses instructs the people of God.)
7 “But if there are any poor...in your towns when you arrive in the land The Lord your God is giving you, do not be hard-hearted or tightfisted toward them.
8 Instead, be generous and lend them whatever they need.
10 Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for The Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.

32 All the nations will be gathered in His presence, and He will separate the people as A Shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 He will place the sheep at His right hand and the goats at His left.
34 “Then The King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world.
35 For I was hungry, and you fed Me. I was thirsty, and you gave Me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited Me into your home.
36 I was naked, and you gave Me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for Me. I was in prison, and you visited Me.’
37 “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing?
39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
40 “And The King will say, ‘I tell you The Truth, when you did it to one of the least of these My brothers and sisters, you were doing it to Me!’

41 “Then The King will turn to those on the left and say, ‘Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons.
42 For I was hungry, and you didn’t feed Me. I was thirsty, and you didn’t give Me a drink.
43 I was a stranger, and you didn’t invite Me into your home. I was naked, and you didn’t give Me clothing. I was sick and in prison, and you didn’t visit Me.’
44 “Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’

21 God blesses you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied. God blesses you who weep now, for in due time you will laugh.
38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”

Luke 7:22 KJV
Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

14 Then at the resurrection of the righteous, God will reward you for inviting those who could not repay you.”

Luke 21:1-4 KJV
1 And He looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.
2 And He saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.

4 For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

10 Their only suggestion was that we keep on helping the poor, which I have always been eager to do.

Galatians 6:2 KJV

I Timothy 6:17-19 NLT
17 Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.
18 Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others.
19 By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.

And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.

5 Listen to me, dear brothers and sisters. Hasn’t God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith? Aren’t they the ones who will inherit the Kingdom he promised to those who love Him?
6 But you dishonor the poor! Isn’t it the rich who oppress you and drag you into court?
7 Aren’t they the ones who slander Jesus Christ, whose noble name you bear?
(Faith without Good Deeds Is Dead)

14 What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?
15 Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, 16 and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?
17 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

I John 3:17,18 KJV
17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
