Bible Questions Answered:
“How are we baptized into Christ's death?...”
Alex/ Boynton, Florida U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:
The Apostle Paul's Explanation:

Romans 6:3-8 KJV
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death?
4 Therefore we are buried (Under the water a type of death) with Him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of The Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him:

Romans 6:2-11 NLT
2 "...Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it?
3 Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined Him in His death?
4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. (Ever know sprinkling to kill anyone? ed.) And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of The Father, now we also may live new lives.
5 Since we have been united with Him in His death, we will also be raised to life as He was.
6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
7 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.
8 And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with Him.
9 We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and He will never die again. Death no longer has any power over Him.
10 When He died, He died once to break the power of sin. But now that He lives, He lives for the glory of God.
11 So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.

Our confession of faith, our baptism, speaks of the death and resurrection of Christ.
As The Lord died, so to our sinful nature was nailed to His cross, and to it we died.
And as our Lord was raised up from the dead, so to, we are raised into newness of “Christ-life” through His victory over death.

The Word:

Romans 7:4 NLT
So, my dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ. And now you are united with The One who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God.

Romans 8:1-11 NLT (Life in The Spirit)
1 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
2 And because you belong to Him, the power of The Life-Giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
3 The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent His own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving His Son as a sacrifice for our sins.
4 He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow The Spirit.
5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by The Holy Spirit think about things that please The Spirit.
6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting The Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will.
8 That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.
9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by The Spirit if you have The Spirit Of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have The Spirit Of Christ living in them do not belong to Him at all.)
10 And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, The Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God.
11 The Spirit Of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, He will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

II Corinthians 5:17 KJV
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Galatians 2:20 KJV
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of The Son Of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.

Galatians 3:27 KJV
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Galatians 5:24,25 NLT
24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to His cross and crucified them there.
25 Since we are living by The Spirit, let us follow The Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

Ephesians 4:23,24 NLT
23 "...let The Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.
24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

Colossians 2:11-15 NLT
11 When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature.
12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with Him you were raised to new life because you trusted The Mighty Power Of God, who raised Christ from the dead.
13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for He forgave all our sins.
14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.
15 In this way, He disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by His victory over them on the cross.

Colossians 3:1-11 KJV
1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on The Right Hand Of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory.
5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him:
11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

Colossians 3:1-11 NLT (Living the New Life)
1 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in The Place Of Honor at God’s Right Hand.
2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.
3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God.
4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all His glory.
5 So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
6 Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming.
7 You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world.
8 But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language.
9 Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds.
10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like Him.
11 In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and He lives in all of us.

Prayer:

II Timothy 2:11 NLT
This is a trustworthy saying: If we die with Him, we will also live with Him.
