Bible Questions Answered:
“What does the story of the ten virgins, teach us today?...”
Roy/ Mountain Brook, Alabama U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

Matthew 25:1-13 KJV (The Ten Virgins- Bridesmaids)
1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein The Son Of Man cometh.

In telling this parable, Our Lord, points out the importance of watchfulness, and sinless living.
There was no warning when The Bridegroom was coming, one must always be at the state of readiness.
Still today, this custom is carried out.

Is your lamp full of the oil of The Holy Spirit? Are you living is a state of readiness, that of worldly separation, ready to meet The Lord Of Glory?

What a great similarity between the door of the Ark and the Wedding Chamber door.

Genesis 7:15,16 NLT (The Flood)
15 Two by two they came into the boat (The Ark), representing every living thing that breathes.
16 A male and female of each kind entered, just as God had commanded Noah. Then The Lord closed the door behind them.

Matthew 25:10-12 KJV
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

Today as in our Lord's day, there is professing Christianity, and there is living Christianity.

Matthew 7:21-23 KJV
21 Not every one that saith unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from Me, ye that work iniquity.

Attending a church, and doing spiritual works, personally, or corporately, does “not,” save anyone!
Who said so- Jesus, said so!

The only thing that saves anyone, is to know Jesus Christ personally. That is to invite Him into your heart and life, repenting of sin, and living for Him!

Why were the religious workers of Matthew 7 “workers of iniquity”? They were because, they did “not,” know Jesus Christ personally, nor live for Him. Their religious works drew others into a dead system of religious ritualism, without ever repenting of sin and calling on the name of The Savior, with the express purpose of living for Him.

What a warning this parable should be to all today.

Prayer:

II Corinthians 6:14-18 NLT (The Temple of The Living God)
14 Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?
15 What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a partner with an unbeliever?
16 And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of The Living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be My people.
17 Therefore, come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them, says The Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you.
18 And I will be your Father, and you will be My sons and daughters, says The Lord Almighty.”
