Bible Lesson: Conversations With Jesus: Jesus, Claimed To Be The Messiah. # 2

Bible Text

John 5:17-47 KJV
17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill Him, because He not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.
19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He seeth The Father do: for what things soever He doeth, these also doeth The Son likewise.
20 For The Father loveth The Son, and sheweth Him all things that Himself doeth: and He will shew Him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.
21 For as The Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so The Son quickeneth whom He will.
22 For The Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto The Son:
23 That all men should honor The Son, even as they honor The Father. He that honoreth not The Son honoreth not The Father which hath sent Him.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My Word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting Life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto Life.
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of The Son Of God: and they that hear shall live.
26 For as The Father hath Life in Himself; so hath He given to The Son to have Life in Himself;
27 And hath given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is The Son Of Man.
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear His voice,
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of Life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
30 I can of Mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and My judgment is just; because I seek not Mine own will, but the will of The Father which hath sent Me.
31 If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true.
32 There is another that beareth witness of Me; and I know that the witness which He witnesseth of Me is true.
33 Ye sent unto John, and he bare witness unto The Truth.
34 But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.
35 He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which The Father hath given Me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of Me, that The Father hath sent Me.
37 And The Father Himself, which hath sent Me, hath borne witness of Me. Ye have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His shape.
38 And ye have not His Word abiding in you: for whom He hath sent, Him ye believe not.
39 Search The Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal Life: and they are they which testify of Me.
40 And ye will not come to Me, that ye might have Life.
41 I receive not honor from men.
42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
43 I am come in My Father's name, and ye receive Me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
44 How can ye believe, which receive honor one of another, and seek not the honor that cometh from God only?
45 Do not think that I will accuse you to The Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.
46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed Me; for he wrote of Me.
47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe My Words?

Bible Topic: The Messiahship Of Jesus.

Matthew 16:15-17 KJV
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art
The Christ*, The Son Of The Living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but My Father which is in heaven.

*Christ -Greek: Christos (Khris-tos): The Messiah, Anointed.

Notice that the word Christ, is the same definition of the Old Testament word Messiah!

Daniel 9:25 KJV
Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto The Messiah* The Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

*Messiah-Hebrew: Mashiyach (Maw-shee-akh): Anointed: The Messiah.

Matthew 26:62-64 KJV
62 And the high priest arose, and said unto Him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
63 But Jesus held His peace, And the high priest answered and said unto Him, I adjure thee by
The Living God, that thou tell us whether thou be The Christ, The Son Of God.
64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see
The Son Of Man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

The Lord Jesus, had not been silent on who He was, for He had always stated where He had come from and who it was that had sent Him.

John 4:25,26 KJV (The Samaritan Woman)
25 The woman saith unto Him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when He is come, He will tell us all things.
26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am He.

Mark 8:27-30 NLT
27 Jesus and His disciples left Galilee and went up to the villages near Caesarea Philippi. As they were walking along, He asked them, “Who do people say I am?”
28 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say you are one of the other prophets.”
29 Then He asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Peter replied, “You are The Messiah.”
30 But Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about Him.
31 Then Jesus began to tell them that The Son Of Man must suffer many terrible things and be rejected by the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but three days later He would rise from the dead.

Mark 14:60-62 KJV
60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
61 But He held His peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked Him, and said unto Him, Art thou The Christ, The Son Of The Blessed?
62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see The Son of Man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Luke 24:44-47 KJV
44 And He said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning Me.
45 Then opened He their understanding, that they might understand The Scriptures,
46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

John 13:13 KJV
Ye call Me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.

John 17:1-3 KJV
1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
2 As thou hast given Him power over all flesh, that He should give eternal Life to as many as thou hast given Him.
3 And this is Life eternal, that they might know thee The Only True God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Isaiah the prophet, prophesied the following would be the distinguishing marks of The Messiah:

Rejected By Men

A Man Of Sorrow
Arrested

 Silence

 Trial

 Suffering, Wounds, And Afflictions

 Death

 Burial – In a wealthy man's tomb.
 Resurrection

Isaiah 52:13-15 KJV
13 Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently, He shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.
14 As many were astonished at thee; His visage was so marred more than any man, and His form more than the sons of men:
15 So shall He sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at Him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.

Isaiah 53:1-12 KJV
1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of
The Lord revealed?
2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: He hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; A Man Of Sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.
4 Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and The Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth: He is brought as A Lamb to the slaughter, and as A Sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He openeth not His mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare His generation? for He was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of My people was He stricken.
9 And He made His grave with the wicked, and with the rich in His death; because He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth.
10 Yet it pleased The Lord to bruise Him; He hath put Him to grief: when thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of The Lord shall prosper in His hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied: by His knowledge shall My Righteous Servant justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong; because He hath poured out His soul unto death: and He was numbered with the transgressors; and He bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Jesus claimed to be The Messiah, His disciples claimed Him to be The Messiah, and The Word Of God states that He is The Messiah.

3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Crown Him With Many Crowns

Crown Him with many crowns,
The Lamb upon His throne;
Hark! How the heav’nly anthem drowns
All music but its own!
Awake, my soul and sing
Of Him Who died for thee,
And hail Him as thy matchless King
Through all eternity.

Crown Him the Lord of love!
Behold His hands and side—
Rich wounds, yet visible above,
In beauty glorified.
No angel in the sky
Can fully bear that sight,
But downward bends His wond’ring eye
At mysteries so bright.

Crown Him the Lord of life!
Who triumphed o’er the grave,
Who rose victorious in the strife
For those He came to save.
His glories now we sing,
Who died, and rose on high,
Who died eternal life to bring,
And lives that death may die.

Crown Him the Lord of heav’n!
One with the Father known,
One with the Spirit through Him giv’n
From yonder glorious throne,
To Thee be endless praise,
For Thou for us hast died;
Be Thou, O Lord, through endless days
Adored and magnified.

Prayer:

John 6:37,40,47 KJV
37 “...him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out.”
40 And this is the will of Him that sent Me, that every one which seeth The Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting Life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me hath everlasting life.
