Bible Questions Answered:
“...as a nurse I've always wondered if working on Sunday is wrong in the sight of God....?
Red/ Quincy, Washington  U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

No!
Jesus addressed this subject in …

Matthew 12:9-13 NLT (Jesus Heals on the Sabbath)
9 Then Jesus went over to their synagogue,
10 where He noticed a man with a deformed hand. The Pharisees asked Jesus, “Does The Law permit a person to work by healing on the Sabbath?” (They were hoping He would say yes, so they could bring charges against Him.)

11 And  He answered, “If you had a sheep that fell into a well on the Sabbath, wouldn’t you work to pull it out? Of course you would.
12 And how much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Yes, The Law permits a person to do good on the Sabbath.”

13 Then He said to the man, “Hold out your hand.” So the man held out his hand, and it was restored, just like the other one! 14 Then the Pharisees called a meeting to plot how to kill Jesus.

Luke 13:10-17 NLT (Jesus Heals on the Sabbath)
10 One Sabbath day as Jesus was teaching in a synagogue,
11 he saw a woman who had been crippled by an evil spirit. She had been bent double for eighteen years and was unable to stand up straight.
12 When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said, “Dear woman, you are healed of your sickness!”
13 Then He touched her, and instantly she could stand straight. How she praised God!

14 But the leader in charge of the synagogue was indignant that Jesus had healed her on the Sabbath day. “There are six days of the week for working,” he said to the crowd. “Come on those days to be healed, not on the Sabbath.”

15 But The Lord replied, “You hypocrites! Each of you works on the Sabbath day! Don’t you untie your ox or your donkey from its stall on the Sabbath and lead it out for water?

16 This dear woman, a daughter of Abraham, has been held in bondage by Satan for eighteen years. Isn’t it right that she be released, even on the Sabbath?”
17 This shamed His enemies, but all the people rejoiced at the wonderful things He did.

As Christians, we do not use the Sabbath as our day of rest.

The Apostle Paul:

Colossians 2:16,17 KJV
16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Romans 14:5,6,12,13 NLT
5 In the same way, some think one day is more holy than another day, while others think every day is alike. You should each be fully convinced that whichever day you choose is acceptable.
6 Those who worship The Lord on a special day do it to honor Him. Those who eat any kind of food do so to honor The Lord, since they give thanks to God before eating. And those who refuse to eat certain foods also want to please The Lord and give thanks to God.
12 Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.
13 So let’s stop condemning each other. Decide instead to live in such a way that you will not cause another believer to stumble and fall.

Mark 2:23-28 NLT (A Discussion about the Sabbath)
23 One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grainfields, His disciples began breaking off heads of grain to eat.
24 But the Pharisees said to Jesus, “Look, why are they breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?”
25 Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry?
26 He went into the house of God (during the days when Abiathar was high priest) and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests are allowed to eat. He also gave some to his companions.”
27 Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath.
28 So The Son Of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!”

Should we faithfully keep Sunday worship?
Yes, because we are a part of the body of Christ, His church.
We need to encourage others, and we need their encouragement our selves!

Naturally not all will be able to attend church on Sunday, the soldier keeping our country safe and free, the nurse and, the doctor at the hospital, keeping the sick alive and recovering, the policeman watching over our city and our homes, etc. etc.

Prayer:

Hebrews 10:25 NLT
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.
