Bible Lesson: Conversations With
Jesus: The Bread Of Life, Jesus Christ.
Bible Text:
John 6:25-65 KJV
Bible Topic:
John 6:22-65 KJV
22 The day
following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea
saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto His
disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with His disciples
into the boat, but that His disciples were gone away alone;
23 (Howbeit
there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they
did eat bread, after that The Lord had given thanks:)
24 When the
people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither His disciples,
they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.
25 And when
they had found Him on the other side of the sea, they said unto Him,
Rabbi, when camest thou hither?
26 Jesus
answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek Me,
not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the
loaves, and were filled.
27 Labor not
for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto
everlasting Life, which The Son Of Man shall give unto you: for Him
hath God The Father sealed.
28 Then said
they unto Him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
29 Jesus
answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe
on Him whom He hath sent.
30 They said
therefore unto Him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and
believe thee? what dost thou work?
31 Our fathers
did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread
from heaven to eat.
32 Then Jesus
said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not
that bread from heaven; but My Father giveth you The True Bread from
heaven.
33 For The
Bread Of God is He which cometh down from heaven, and giveth Life
unto the world.
34 Then said
they unto Him, Lord, evermore give us this Bread.
35 And Jesus
said unto them, I am The Bread Of Life: he that cometh to Me shall
never hunger; and he that believeth on Me shall never thirst.
36 But I said
unto you, That ye also have seen Me, and believe not.
37 All that The
Father giveth Me shall come to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will
in no wise cast out.
38 For I came
down from heaven, not to do Mine own will, but the will of Him that
sent Me.
39 And this is
The Father's will which hath sent Me, that of all which He hath given
Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last
day.
40 And this is
the will of Him that sent Me, that every one which seeth The Son, and
believeth on Him, may have everlasting Life: and I will raise him up
at the last day.
41 The Jews
then murmured at Him, because He said, I am The Bread which came down
from heaven.
42 And they
said, Is not this Jesus, The Son Of Joseph, whose father and mother
we know? how is it then that He saith, I came down from heaven?
43 Jesus
therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
44 No man can
come to Me, except The Father which hath sent Me draw him: and I will
raise him up at the last day.
45 It is
written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every
man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of The Father, cometh
unto Me.
46 Not that any
man hath seen The Father, save He which is of God, He hath seen The
Father.
47 Verily,
verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me hath everlasting
Life.
48 I am that
Bread Of Life.
49 Your fathers
did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50 This is the
Bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and
not die.
51 I am The
Living Bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this
Bread, he shall live for ever: and The Bread that I will give is My
Flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
52 The Jews
therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this Man give us
His Flesh to eat?
53 Then Jesus
said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat The
Flesh Of The Son Of Man, and drink His Blood, ye have no life in you.
54 Whoso eateth
My Flesh, and drinketh My Blood, hath eternal Life; and I will raise
him up at the last day.
55 For My Flesh
is meat indeed, and My Blood is drink indeed.
56 He that
eateth My Flesh, and drinketh My Blood, dwelleth in Me, and I in him.
57 As The
Living Father hath sent Me, and I live by The Father: so he that
eateth Me, even he shall live by Me.
58 This is that
Bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna,
and are dead: he that eateth of this Bread shall live for ever.
59 These things
said He in the synagogue, as He taught in Capernaum.
60 Many
therefore of His disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is
an hard saying; who can hear it?
61 When Jesus
knew in Himself that His disciples murmured at it, He said unto them,
Doth this offend you?
62 What and if
ye shall see The Son Of Man ascend up where He was before?
63 It is The
Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: The Words that I
speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are Life.
64 But there
are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning
who they were that believed not, and who should betray Him.
65 And He said,
Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto Me, except it
were given unto him of My Father.
The Bread And
The Blood:
Genesis 14:18
NLT
And
Melchizedek, The King Of Salem (King Of Peace/ King Of Jerusalem ed.)
and A Priest Of God Most High, brought Abram some bread and wine
Exodus 25:30 NLT
Place The Bread
Of The Presence on the table to remain before Me at all times.
Nehemiah 9:15
NLT
1 You gave them
bread from heaven when they were hungry and water from The Rock when
they were thirsty. You commanded them to go and take possession of
the land you had sworn to give them.
Isaiah 55:1-7
KJV
1 Ho, every
one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money;
come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and
without price.
2 Wherefore do
ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that
which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto Me, and eat ye that
which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
3 Incline your
ear, and come unto Me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will
make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of
David.
4 Behold, I
have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to
the people.
5 Behold, thou
shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not
thee shall run unto thee because of The Lord thy God, and for The
Holy One Of Israel; for He hath glorified thee.
6 Seek ye The
Lord while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near:
7 Let the
wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let
him return unto The Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our
God, for He will abundantly pardon.
I Corinthians
10:16-17 NLT
16 When we
bless the cup at The Lord’s Table, aren’t we sharing in The Blood
Of Christ? And when we break The Bread, aren’t we sharing in The
Body Of Christ?
17 And though
we are many, we all eat from one loaf of Bread, showing that we are
one body.
I Corinthians
11:23-26 KJV
23 For I have
received of The Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that The
Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took Bread:
24 And when He
had given thanks, He brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is My Body,
which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of Me.
25 After the
same manner also He took The Cup, when He had supped, saying, this
Cup is the new testament in My Blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink
it, in remembrance of Me.
26 For as often
as ye eat this Bread, and drink this Cup, ye do shew The Lord's death
till He come.
At the last supper, Jesus used the bread and wine, as symbols of what
was about to take place, namely His crucifixion and death, as He was
The Father's Passover Lamb, to take away the sins of the world.
John 3:14-21 KJV
14 And as Moses
lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must The Son Of Man
be lifted up:
15 That
whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal Life.
16 For God so
loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting Life.
17 For God sent
not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world
through Him might be saved.
18 He that
believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is
condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of The
Only Begotten Son Of God.
19 And this is
the condemnation, that Light is come into the world, and men loved
darkness rather than Light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every
one that doeth evil hateth The Light, neither cometh to The Light,
lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that
doeth Truth cometh to The Light, that his deeds may be made manifest,
that they are wrought in God.
Were the bread and the wine, actually Christ's body and blood? No, He
hadn't even died yet. And most certainly our Lord was not teaching
cannibalism to His disciples.
The bread and wine were, symbols, to be remembered, of
Christ's broken body and spilt blood.
I Corinthians
11:24,25 KJV
24 “...this
do in remembrance of Me.”
25 “...in
remembrance of Me.”
Did The Lord Jesus, use metaphors? Yes!
Metaphor:
A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object
or action to which it is not literally applicable.
John 8:12 KJV
Then spake
Jesus again unto them, saying, I am The Light Of The World: he
that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have The
Light Of Life.
John 10:7,11 KJV
7 Then said
Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am The
Door Of The Sheep.
11 I am The
Good Shepherd: The Good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep.
John 14:6 KJV
Jesus saith
unto him, I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life:
no man cometh unto The Father, but by Me.
John 15:5 KJV
I am The
Vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in Me, and I in him,
the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing.
When our Lord stated that He was The Bread Of Life, He was saying,
that He alone was the source of spiritual sustenance, and life.
Romans 6:23 KJV
For the wages
of sin is death; but The Gift Of God is eternal Life through Jesus
Christ our Lord.
Break
Thou The Bread Of Life
Break Thou The Bread of Life, dear Lord, to me,
As Thou didst break the loaves beside the sea;
Beyond the sacred page I seek Thee, Lord;
My spirit pants for Thee, O living Word!
Bless Thou The Truth, dear Lord, to me, to me,
As Thou didst bless the bread by Galilee;
Then shall all bondage cease, all fetters fall;
And I shall find my peace, my all in all.
Thou art The Bread Of Life, O Lord, to me,
Thy holy Word The Truth that saveth me;
Give me to eat and live with Thee above;
Teach me to love Thy Truth, for Thou art love.
Oh, send Thy Spirit, Lord, now unto me,
That He may touch my eyes, and make me see:
Show me The Truth concealed within Thy Word,
And in Thy Book revealed I see The Lord.
