did Jesus really go into hell in his death?...”
Ben/
Red Creek (Tucker Co.) West Virginia
Bible Answer:
Bible Texts:
No. Jesus while His body lay in the tomb, entered into sheol.
Sheol
The Hebrew underworld, abode of the dead.
The
abode of the dead or of departed spirits.
Ephesians
4:5-10 KJV
5
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in
you all.
7
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of
the gift of Christ.
8
Wherefore He saith, When He ascended up on high, He led captivity
captive, and gave gifts unto men.
9
(Now that He ascended, what is it but that He also descended first
into the lower parts of the earth?
10
He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all
heavens, that He might fill all things.)
Ephesians
4:8 NLT
That
is why The Scriptures say, “When He ascended to the heights, He
led a crowd of captives and gave gifts to His people.”
What
was “the lower parts of the earth?”
I
Peter 3:18,19 KJV
18
Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but
He died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered
physical death, but He was raised to life in the Spirit.
19
So He went and preached to the spirits in prison
Our
Lord tells us about “ the lower parts of the earth,”
in ...
Luke 16:19-31 KJV (The Rich Man and Lazarus)
19
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine
linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20
And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his
gate, full of sores,
21
And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's
table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22
And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the
angels into Abraham's bosom (Adam's
paradise, relocated):
the rich man also died, and was buried;
23
And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and
seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send
Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my
tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst
thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is
comforted, and thou art tormented.
26
And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed:
so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can
they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27
Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send
him to my father's house:
28
For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they
also come into this place of torment.
29
Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them
hear them.
30
And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the
dead, they will repent.
31
And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets,
neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Ephesians
4:9 KJV “the lower parts of the earth (Hades/
Sheol),” consisted
of Abraham's bosom,
and hell
(Luke 16:22,23).
These
two areas were separated from each other ...“And beside
all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that
they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass
to us, that would come from thence.”
Luke
16:26 KJV
I
Corinthians 15:20-23 KJV
20
But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become The first fruits of
them that slept.
21
For since by man came death, by Man came also the resurrection of the
dead.
22
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23
But every man in his own order: Christ The First fruits; afterward
they that are Christ's at His coming.
Ephesians
4:8 NLT
That
is why The Scriptures say, “When He ascended to the heights, He
led a crowd of captives and gave gifts to His people.”
Where
did our Lord, lead these Godly people, who had been held in prison,
in “the lower parts of the earth”? He
lead them into heaven.
John
14:1-6 KJV
1
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in
Me.
2 In
My Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have
told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and
receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4
And whither I go ye know, and The Way ye know.
5
Thomas saith unto Him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how
can we know the way?
6
Jesus saith unto him, I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life: no man
cometh unto The Father, but by Me.
How
Beautiful Heaven Must Be
We read of a place that’s called heaven,
It’s made for the pure and the free;
These truths in God’s Word He hath given,
How beautiful heaven must be.
Chorus:
How beautiful heaven must be,
Sweet home of the happy and free;
Fair haven of rest for the weary,
How beautiful heaven must be.
In heaven no drooping nor pining,
No wishing for elsewhere to be;
God’s light is forever there shining,
How beautiful heaven must be.
Pure waters of life there are flowing,
And all who will drink may be free;
Rare jewels of splendor are glowing,
How beautiful heaven must be.
The angels so sweetly are singing,
Up there by the beautiful sea;
Sweet chords from their gold harps are ringing,
How beautiful heaven must be.

I John 5:11-13
KJV
11 And this is the record, that God
hath given to us Eternal life, and this Life is in His Son.
12 He that hath The Son hath Life;
and he that hath not The Son Of God hath not Life.
13 These things have I written unto
you that believe on the name of The Son Of God; that ye may know
that ye have Eternal Life, and that ye may believe on the name of
The Son Of God.
