Bible Lesson: Messianic
Prophecies, Fulfilled, In Jesus Christ. Betrayed For Thirty Pieces Of
Silver.
Bible Text:
Prophecy:
Zechariah 11:12,13 NLT B.C. 487
12 And I said to them, “If you like,
give me my wages, whatever I am worth; but only if you want to.” So
they counted out for my wages thirty pieces of silver.
13 And The Lord said to me, “Throw it
to the potter”—this magnificent sum at which they valued me! So I
took the thirty coins and threw them to the potter in the Temple of
The Lord.
Fulfilled:
Matthew 26:14,15 KJV A.D.33
14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas
Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15 And said unto them, What will ye
give me, and I will deliver Him unto you? And they covenanted with
him for thirty pieces of silver.
The Word:
Exodus 21:32 KJV (Price of a slave)
But if the ox
gores a slave, either male or female, the animal’s owner must pay
the slave’s owner thirty silver coins, and the ox must be stoned.
Matthew
27:3,9,10 NLT
3 When Judas,
who had betrayed Him, realized that Jesus had been condemned to die,
he was filled with remorse. So he took the thirty pieces of silver
back to the leading priests and the elders.
9 This
fulfilled the prophecy of Jeremiah that says, “They tookb the
thirty pieces of silver— the price at which He was valued by the
people of Israel,
10 and
purchased the potter’s field, as The LORD directed.”
John 13:18-32 NLT (Jesus Predicts His Betrayal)
18 “I am not
saying these things to all of you; I know the ones I have chosen. But
this fulfills The Scripture that says, ‘The one who eats My food
has turned against Me.’
19 I tell you
this beforehand, so that when it happens you will believe that I am
The Messiah.
20 I tell you
The Truth, anyone who welcomes My Messenger is welcoming Me, and
anyone who welcomes Me is welcoming The Father who sent Me.”
21 Now Jesus
was deeply troubled, and He exclaimed, “I tell you The Truth, one
of you will betray Me!”
22 The
disciples looked at each other, wondering whom He could mean. 23 The
disciple Jesus loved was sitting next to Jesus at the table. 24 Simon
Peter motioned to him to ask, “Who’s He talking about?”
25 So that
disciple leaned over to Jesus and asked, “Lord, who is it?”
26 Jesus
responded, “It is the one to whom I give the bread I dip in the
bowl.” And when He had dipped it, He gave it to Judas, son of Simon
Iscariot.
27 When Judas
had eaten the bread, Satan entered into him. Then Jesus told him,
“Hurry and do what you’re going to do.”
28 None of the
others at the table knew what Jesus meant.
29 Since Judas
was their treasurer, some thought Jesus was telling him to go and pay
for the food or to give some money to the poor.
30 So Judas
left at once, going out into the night.
31 As soon as
Judas left the room, Jesus said, “The time has come for The Son Of
Man to enter into His glory, and God will be glorified because of
Him.
32 And since
God receives glory because of The Son, He will give His own glory to
The Son, and He will do so at once.
Acts 1:12-20 NLT
12 Then the
apostles returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, a distance
of half a mile.
13 When they
arrived, they went to the upstairs room of the house where they were
staying. Here are the names of those who were present: Peter, John,
James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James (son of
Alphaeus), Simon (the zealot), and Judas (son of James).
14 They all met
together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the
mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus.
15 During this
time, when about 120 believers were together in one place, Peter
stood up and addressed them.
16 “Brothers,”
he said, “the Scriptures had to be fulfilled concerning Judas, who
guided those who arrested Jesus. This was predicted long ago by The
Holy Spirit, speaking through King David. 17 Judas was one of us and
shared in the ministry with us.”
18 (Judas had
bought a field with the money he received for his treachery. Falling
headfirst there, his body split open, spilling out all his
intestines.
19 The news of
his death spread to all the people of Jerusalem, and they gave the
place the Aramaic name Akeldama, which means “Field of Blood.”)
20 Peter
continued, “This was written in the book of Psalms, where it says,
‘Let his home become desolate, with no one living in it.’ It also
says, ‘Let someone else take his position.’
Psalm 69:25 KJV
Let their
habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.
Psalm 109:8 KJV
Let his days be
few; and let another take his office.
Prayer:
Mark
14:21 KJV
The
Son Of Man indeed goeth, as it is written of Him: but woe> to that
man by whom The Son Of Man is betrayed! good were it for that man if
he had never been born.
