Bible Lesson: Messianic
Prophecies, Fulfilled, In Jesus Christ. Betrayed By A Friend.
Bible Text:
Prophecy:
Psalm 41:9 KJV (In the time of
King David-1085-1015 B.C.)
Yea, Mine own familiar friend, in
whom I trusted, which did eat of My bread, hath lifted up his heel
against Me.
Fulfilled:
Mark 14:10 KJV A.D.33
And Judas Iscariot, one of the
twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray Him unto them.
The Word:
Matthew 10:35,36
KJV
35 For I am
come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter
against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in
law.
36 And a man's
foes shall be they of his own household.
Matthew 24:10
KJV
And then shall
many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one
another.
Matthew
26:14-16,21-25,45-49 KJV
14 Then one of
the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15 And said
unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver Him unto you? And
they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
16 And from
that time he sought opportunity to betray Him.
21 And as they
did eat, He said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray
Me.
22 And they
were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto
Him, Lord, is it I?
23 And He
answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with Me in the dish, the
same shall betray Me.
24 The Son Of
Man goeth as it is written of Him: but woe unto that man by whom The
Son Of Man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not
been born.
25 Then Judas,
which betrayed Him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto
him, Thou hast said.
45 Then cometh
He to His disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your
rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and The Son Of Man is betrayed
into the hands of sinners.
46 Rise, let us
be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray Me.
47 And while He
yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great
multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders
of the people.
48 Now he that
betrayed Him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that
same is He: hold Him fast.
49 And
forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed Him.
Mark 14:10,11
KJV
10 And Judas
Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray
Him unto them.
11 And when
they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he
sought how he might conveniently betray Him.
Luke 22:1-6,47,48 NLT (Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus)
1 The Festival
of Unleavened Bread, which is also called Passover, was approaching.
2 The leading
priests and teachers of religious law were plotting how to kill
Jesus, but they were afraid of the people’s reaction.
3 Then Satan
entered into Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve disciples,
4 and he went
to the leading priests and captains of the Temple guard to discuss
the best way to betray Jesus to them.
5 They were
delighted, and they promised to give him money.
6 So he agreed
and began looking for an opportunity to betray Jesus so they could
arrest Him when the crowds weren’t around.
Jesus Is
Betrayed and Arrested
47 But even as
Jesus said this, a crowd approached, led by Judas, one of the twelve
disciples. Judas walked over to Jesus to greet Him with a kiss.
48 But Jesus
said, “Judas, would you betray The Son Of Man with a kiss?”
John 6:64 KJV
But there are
some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who
they were that believed not, and who should betray Him.
John 13:18-30 NLT (Jesus Predicts His Betrayal)
18 “I am not
saying these things to all of you; I know the ones I have chosen. But
this fulfills the Scripture that says, ‘The one who eats My food
has turned against Me.’
19 I tell you
this beforehand, so that when it happens you will believe that I am
The Messiah.
20 I tell you
The Truth, anyone who welcomes My Messenger is welcoming Me, and
anyone who welcomes Me is welcoming The Father who sent Me.”
21 Now Jesus
was deeply troubled, and He exclaimed, “I tell you The Truth, one
of you will betray Me!”
22 The
disciples looked at each other, wondering whom He could mean. 23 The
disciple Jesus loved was sitting next to Jesus at the table.
24 Simon Peter
motioned to him to ask, “Who’s He talking about?”
25 So that
disciple leaned over to Jesus and asked, “Lord, who is it?”
26 Jesus
responded, “It is the one to whom I give the bread I dip in the
bowl.” And when He had dipped it, He gave it to Judas, son of Simon
Iscariot.
27 When Judas
had eaten the bread, Satan entered into him. Then Jesus told him,
“Hurry and do what you’re going to do.”
28 None of the
others at the table knew what Jesus meant.
29 Since Judas
was their treasurer, some thought Jesus was telling him to go and pay
for the food or to give some money to the poor.
30 So Judas
left at once, going out into the night.
Acts 1:16-20 NLT
16 “Brothers,”
he said, “The Scriptures had to be fulfilled concerning Judas, who
guided those who arrested Jesus. This was predicted long ago by The
Holy Spirit, speaking through King David. 17 Judas was one of us and
shared in the ministry with us.”
18 (Judas had
bought a field with the money he received for his treachery. Falling
headfirst there, his body split open, spilling out all his
intestines.
19 The news of
his death spread to all the people of Jerusalem, and they gave the
place the Aramaic name Akeldama, which means “Field of Blood.”)
20 Peter
continued, “This was written in the book of Psalms, where it says,
‘Let his home become desolate, with no one living in it.’ It also
says, ‘Let someone else take his position.’
Epilogue/ Prayer:
Proverbs 17:17 KJV
A friend loveth
at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
Proverbs 18:24
KJV
A man that hath
friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that
sticketh closer than a brother.
Proverbs 27:6
KJV
Faithful are
the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Luke 6:31 KJV
And as ye would
that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
James 4:4 NLT
You adulterers!
Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy
of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you
make yourself an enemy of God.
