Bible Texts:
Blasphemy:
Leviticus
24:10-16 NLT (An Example of Just Punishment)
10 One day a man who had
an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father came out of his tent and
got into a fight with one of the Israelite men.
11 During the fight, this
son of an Israelite woman blasphemed
the Name of The Lord with
a curse. So the man was brought to Moses for judgment. His mother was
Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan.
12 They kept the man in
custody until The Lord’s will in the matter should become clear to
them.
13 Then The Lord said to
Moses,
14 “Take the blasphemer
outside the camp, and tell all those who heard the curse to lay their
hands on his head. Then let the entire community stone him to death.
15 Say to the people of
Israel: Those who curse their God will be punished for their sin.
16 Anyone who blasphemes
the Name of The Lord must be stoned to death by the whole community
of Israel. Any native-born Israelite or foreigner among you who
blasphemes the Name of The Lord must be put to death.
II
Chronicles 32:16-23 NLT
16 And Sennacherib’s
officers further mocked The Lord God and His servant Hezekiah,
heaping insult upon insult.
17 The king also sent
letters scorning The Lord, The God Of Israel. He wrote, “Just as
the gods of all the other nations failed to rescue their people from
my power, so The God Of Hezekiah will also fail.”
18 The Assyrian officials
who brought the letters shouted this in Hebrew to the people gathered
on the walls of the city, trying to terrify them so it would be
easier to capture the city.
19 These officers talked
about The God Of Jerusalem as though He were one of the pagan gods,
made by human hands.
20 Then King Hezekiah and
the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz cried out in prayer to God in heaven.
21 And The Lord sent an
angel who destroyed the Assyrian army with all its commanders and
officers. So Sennacherib was forced to return home in disgrace to his
own land. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own
sons killed him there with a sword.
22 That is how The Lord
rescued Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from King Sennacherib of
Assyria and from all the others who threatened them. So there was
peace throughout the land.
23 From then on King
Hezekiah became highly respected among all the surrounding nations,
and many gifts for The Lord arrived at Jerusalem, with valuable
presents for King Hezekiah, too.
Isaiah
65:6-8 KJV
6 Behold, it is written
before Me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, even
recompense into their bosom,
7 Your iniquities, and
the iniquities of your fathers together, saith
The Lord, which have
burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed Me upon the hills:
therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.
8 Thus saith The Lord, As
the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not;
for a blessing is in it: so will I do for My servants' sakes, that I
may not destroy them all.
Daniel
7:25 KJV (Prophecy concerning the Anti-Christ)
And he shall speak great
words against The Most High, and shall wear out the saints of The
Most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be
given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
Acts
13:45 KJV
But when the Jews saw the
multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those
things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming.
Acts

synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
5 And when Silas and
Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit,
and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.
6 And when they opposed
themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them,
Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean; from henceforth I will
go unto the Gentiles.
I

not to blaspheme.

their deeds.

danger of eternal damnation.
30 Because they said, He
hath an unclean spirit.

guiltless that taketh His name in vain.
Leviticus

not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a
bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings
shall tell the matter.
Matthew
5:34,35 KJV
34 But I say unto you,
Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:

it is His footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of The
Great King.
Luke

you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.
Romans

persecute you: bless, and curse not.
Ephesians
4:29 NLT
Don’t use foul or
abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that
your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
Ephesians
5:1-8 KJV
1 Be ye therefore
followers of God, as dear children;
2 And walk in love, as
Christ also hath loved us, and hath given Himself for us an Offering
and a Sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor.
3 But fornication, and
all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you,
as becometh saints;
4 Neither filthiness, nor
foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather
giving of thanks.
5 For this ye know, that
no whore monger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an
idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceive you
with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God
upon the children of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore
partakers with them.
8 For ye were sometimes
darkness, but now are ye Light in The Lord: walk as children of
Light:
Colossians
3:8 NLT
But now is the time to
get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty
language.
James
3:10 KJV
Out of the same mouth
proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not
so to be.
James
5:12 KJV
But above all things, my
brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither
by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest
ye fall into condemnation.
Cursing:
Psalm 10:4-7 KJV
4 The wicked, through the pride of his countenance,
will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.
5 His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far
above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.
6 He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved:
for I shall never be in adversity.
7 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud:
under his tongue is mischief and vanity.
Psalm 59:12 KJV
For the sin of their mouth and the words of their
lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying
which they speak.
Psalm 109:17 KJV
As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he
delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.
Ecclesiastes 7:22 KJV
For oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou
thyself likewise hast cursed others.
Romans 3:13,14 KJV
13 Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their
tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their
lips:
14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:
James 3:2-12 NLT
2 Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could
control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control
ourselves in every other way.
3 We can make a large horse go wherever we want by
means of a small bit in its mouth.
4 And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever
the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong.
5 In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that
makes grand speeches.
But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire.
6 And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is
a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your
entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on
fire by hell itself.
7 People can tame all kinds of animals, birds,
reptiles, and fish,
8 but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and
evil, full of deadly poison.
9 Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and
sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God.
10 And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of
the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!
11 Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh
water and bitter water?
12 Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine
produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty
spring.
Prayer:
Profanity has “no,” place in the life of a child of
God! The psalmist prayed (make it your own prayer)...
Psalm
19:14 KJV
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my
heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my Strength, and my
Redeemer.
Psalm 139:23,24 KJV
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and
know my thoughts:
24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead
me in
The Way everlasting.
Psalm 141:3 KJV
Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door
of my lips.
