Bible Questions Answered:
“...I read in Acts 2:38 that baptism saves us...”

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

For the answer to this question see the following  blog postings....

Salvation is through faith alone.

John 3:16-18 KJV
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of The Only Begotten Son Of God.

Question:
Which of the following Bible verses, state that baptism is necessary for salvation?

Acts 3:19 KJV (Peter)
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of The Lord.

Acts 3:19 NLT (Peter)
Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away

Acts 10:43 KJV
To Him give all the prophets witness, that through His name whosoever believeth in Him shall receive remission of sins.

Acts 10:43 NLT
He is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in Him will have their sins forgiven through His name.”

Acts 13:38 NLT
“Brothers, listen! We are here to proclaim that through this Man Jesus there is forgiveness for your sins.

Acts 20:21 NLT
I have had one message for Jews and Greeks alike—the necessity of repenting from sin and turning to God, and of having faith in our Lord Jesus.

Ephesians 1:7 NLT
He is so rich in kindness and grace that He purchased our freedom with The Blood Of His Son and forgave our sins.

Answer:
The answer is, none of them, because baptism is a means of confession, yes, but not a means of salvation.

Repentance (of sin), and faith in  the risen Savior, The Lord Jesus, is the  only salvation formula!

Acts 2:38 KJV
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive The Gift of The Holy Ghost.

The problem with this verse is the Greek word “for-eis). 'For” can mean one of two things.
It can be in the “causality” sense, meaning (in order to receive), or it can be in
the “resultant”sense, meaning “because of.”

The word “for” in Acts is in the resultant case, meaning:

(Firstly) Repent
And (Secondly
be baptized  (because as a result of your salvation. Public confession of your faith in The Savior.)

This verse makes it a little clearer.

Acts 2:38 Amplified Bible
And Peter said to them, “Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as The Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive The Gift of The Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 2;8,9 KJV
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Titus 3:5 NLT
He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through The Holy Spirit.

How much plainer, can The Word Of God be?

Dear friend, it wasn't baptism that went to the cross, to bleed and die for  you, it was our precious Savior The Lord Jesus who washed and made us clean through His own Blood.

Prayer:

John 8:12 KJV
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am The Light Of The World: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have The Light Of Life.
