Bible Questions Answered:
“Please explain Romans 8:12-14 …'
Keith/ Parsons, Kansas  U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

Romans 8:12-14 KJV
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through The Spirit do mortify* the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by The Spirit Of God, they are the sons of God.

*Mortify-Greek: Thanatoo (Than-at-o-o) To kill-become dead (cause to be) put to death, kill, mortify.

Romans 8:12-14 Contemporary English Version
12 My dear friends, we must not live to satisfy our desires.
13 If you do, you will die. But you will live, if by the help of God’s Spirit you say “No” to your desires.
14 Only those people who are led by God’s Spirit are His children.

Romans 8:12-14 The Message
12-14 So don’t you see that we don’t owe this old do-it-yourself life one red cent. There’s nothing in it for us, nothing at all. The best thing to do is give it a decent burial and get on with your new life. God’s Spirit beckons. There are things to do and places to go!

Romans 8:12-14 New Century Version
12 So, my brothers and sisters, we must not be ruled by our sinful selves or live the way our sinful selves want.
13 If you use your lives to do the wrong things your sinful selves want, you will die spiritually. But if you use The Spirit’s help to stop doing the wrong things you do with your body, you will have true life.
14 The true children of God are those who let God’s Spirit lead them.

The Apostle, is talking to believers. He said that a child of God, cannot “Live in the flesh.”
As Christians, we are called to “mortify,” (Romans 8:13) the things of  the flesh, that is to abandon, or to kill them off.
This is where we derive the word mortician.

Galatians 5:13 NLT
For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.
The Walk Of The Christian:

Romans 6:4 KJV
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Romans 8:1,4 KJV
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after The Spirit.
4 That the righteousness of The Law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after The Spirit.

Romans 13:13,14 KJV
13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14 But put ye on The Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.

Galatians 5:16,25 KJV
16 This I say then, Walk in The Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
25 If we live in The Spirit, let us also walk in The Spirit.

Ephesians 4:1 KJV
I therefore, the prisoner of The Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

Ephesians 5:15 KJV
So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise.

Colossians 2:6 KJV
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus The Lord, so walk ye in Him:

1 Thessalonians 2:12 KJV
That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto His kingdom and glory.

II Thessalonians 3:6 KJV
Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

1 Peter 5:8 KJV
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

1 John 1:6,7 KJV
If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not The Truth:
7 But if we walk in The Light, as He is in The Light, we have fellowship one with another, and The Blood Of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.

1 John 2:6 KJV
He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.

Prayer:

Colossians 1:10 KJV
That ye might walk worthy of The Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
