 Bible Questions Answered:
“What scripture did the Lord have  in his day?...”
Alex/ Woodland, California  U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

The Jewish Bible of our Lord's day "The Torah," contained the Torah (First five books), and the prophetic books.

Jesus had access to the 39 books of the Old Testament, but not necessarily in the order we have them.
He quoted  from the Old Testament many times.

He quoted these verses more than others.

Exodus 20:13 KJV
Thou shalt not kill.

Matthew 5:21 KJV
Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:–

Exodus 20:14 KJV
Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Matthew 5:27 KJV –
Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

Exodus 20:12 KJV
Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which The Lord thy God giveth thee.

Deuteronomy 5:16 KJV
Honor thy father and thy mother, as The Lord thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which The Lord thy God giveth thee.

Matthew 15:4 KJV
For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

Mark 7:10 KJV
For Moses said, Honor thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:– ,

Exodus 20:12-16 KJV
12 Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which The Lord thy God giveth thee.
13 Thou shalt not kill.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15 Thou shalt not steal.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

Deuteronomy 5:16-20 KJV
16 Honor thy father and thy mother, as The Lord thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which The Lord thy God giveth thee.
17 Thou shalt not kill.
18 Neither shalt thou commit adultery.
19 Neither shalt thou steal.
20 Neither shalt thou bear false witness against thy neighbor.

Matthew 19:19 KJV
Honor thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

Mark 10:19 KJV
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honor thy father and mother.

Luke 18:20 KJV
Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor thy father and thy mother.

Jesus also quoted:

Hosea 6:6 KJV
For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.

Matthew 9:13 KJV
But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Matthew 12:7 KJV
But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

Leviticus 19:18 KJV
Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am The LORD.

Matthew 5:43 KJV
Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

Matthew 22:39 KJV
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

Mark 12:31 KJV
And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Our Lord, using Scripture, taught us that....

John 13:15 KJV
For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

Memorizing And Using Scripture:

Joshua 1;8 KJV
This book of The Law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Psalm 119:15,16 KJV
15 I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.
16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy Word.

Proverbs 4:10-13 NLT
10 My child, listen to me and do as I say, and you will have a long, good life.
11 I will teach you wisdom’s ways and lead you in straight paths.
12 When you walk, you won’t be held back; when you run, you won’t stumble.
13 Take hold of my instructions; don’t let them go. Guard them, for they are the key to life.

Acts 17:11 KJV
And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched The Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching The Truth.

Ephesians 6:17 NLT
Put on salvation as your helmet, and take The Sword Of the Spirit, which is The Word Of God.

II Timothy 2:15 KJV
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing The Word Of Truth.

II Timothy 3:16,17 KJV
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Hebrews 4:12 KJV
For The Word Of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

I Peter 3:15 KJV
But sanctify The Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

I John 4:1 KJV
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Prayer:

Matthew 4:4 KJV
But He answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
