Bible Lesson: Messianic
Prophecies, Fulfilled, In Jesus Christ. Abraham's Descendants.
Bible Text:
Prophecy:
Genesis 18:18 NLT
For Abraham will certainly become a
great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be
blessed through him.
Matthew 1:1 NLT (The Ancestors
of Jesus The Messiah)
This is a record of the ancestors of
Jesus The Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham:
Abraham's
Descendants:
Genesis 12:1,2 KJV
1 Now The Lord had said unto Abram,
Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy
father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great
nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou
shalt be a blessing:
Genesis 15:1-21 KJV
1 After these things The Word Of The
Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy
shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
2 And Abram said, Lord God, what
wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house
is this Eliezer of Damascus?
3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou
hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
4 And, behold, The Word Of The Lord
came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that
shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
5 And he brought him forth abroad,
and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able
to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6 And he believed in The Lord; and
he counted it to him for righteousness.
7 And He said unto him, I am The
Lord that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this
land to inherit it.
8 And he said, Lord God, whereby
shall I know that I shall inherit it?
9 And He said unto him, Take Me an
heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a
ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
10 And he took unto him all these,
and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against
another: but the birds divided he not.
11 And when the fowls came down upon
the carcases, Abram drove them away.
12 And when the sun was going down,
a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness
fell upon him.
13 And he said unto Abram, Know of a
surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not
theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four
hundred years;
14 And also that nation, whom they
shall serve, will I Judge: and afterward shall they come out with
great substance.
15 And thou shalt go to thy fathers
in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
16 But in the fourth generation they
shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet
full.
17 And it came to pass, that, when
the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a
burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
18 In the same day The Lord made a
covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land,
from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites,
and the Kadmonites,
20 And the Hittites, and the
Perizzites, and the Rephaims,
21 And the Amorites, and the
Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
Genesis
17:3-6,20 KJV
3 And Abram fell on his face: and
God talked with him, saying,
4 As for Me, behold, My covenant is
with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.
5 Neither shall thy name any more be
called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many
nations have I made thee.
6 And I will make thee exceeding
fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out
of thee.
20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard
thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and
will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I
will make him a great nation.
Genesis 17:9-14
NLT (The Mark of the Covenant)
9 Then God said to Abraham, “Your
responsibility is to obey the terms of the covenant. You and all your
descendants have this continual responsibility.
10 This is the covenant that you and
your descendants must keep: Each male among you must be circumcised.
11 You must cut off the flesh of
your foreskin as a sign of the covenant between Me and you.
12 From generation to generation,
every male child must be circumcised on the eighth day after his
birth. This applies not only to members of your family but also to
the servants born in your household and the foreign-born servants
whom you have purchased.
13 All must be circumcised. Your
bodies will bear the mark of My everlasting covenant.
14 Any male who fails to be
circumcised will be cut off from the covenant family for breaking the
covenant.”
Exodus 2:23-25
KJV
23 And it came to pass in process of
time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed
by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto
God by reason of the bondage.
24 And God heard their groaning, and
God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.
25 And God looked upon the children
of Israel, and God had respect unto them.
Exodus 3:6 KJV
Moreover He said, I am The God of
thy father, The God of Abraham, The God of Isaac, and The God of
Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
Joshua 24:2,3
KJV
2 And Joshua said unto all the
people, Thus saith The Lord God Of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the
other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of
Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.
3 And I took your father Abraham
from the other side of the flood, and led him through out all the
land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.
Nehemiah 9:7,8
KJV
7 Thou art The Lord The God, who
didst choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the
Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham;
8 And foundest his heart faithful
before thee, and madest a covenant with him to give the land of the
Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the
Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it, I say, to his seed, and
hast performed thy words; for thou art righteous:
Psalm
105:5-11,42-45 KJV
5 Remember His marvelous works that
He hath done; His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth;
6 O ye seed of Abraham His servant,
ye children of Jacob His chosen.
7 He is The Lord our God: His
judgments are in all the earth.
8 He hath remembered His covenant
for ever, The Word which He commanded to a thousand generations.
9 Which covenant He made with
Abraham, and His oath unto Isaac;
10 And confirmed the same unto Jacob
for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant:
11 Saying, Unto thee will I give the
land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance:
42 For He remembered His holy
promise, and Abraham His servant.
43 And He brought forth His people
with joy, and His chosen with gladness:
44 And gave them the lands of the
heathen: and they inherited the labor of the people;
45 That they might observe His
statutes, and keep His laws. Praise ye the Lord.
Isaiah 41:8 KJV
But thou, Israel, art My servant,
Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham My friend.
Matthew 1:1 KJV
The book of the generation of Jesus
Christ, The Son Of David, The Son Of Abraham.
Matthew 3:9,10
KJV
9 And think not to say within
yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that
God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
10 And now also the ax is laid unto
the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth
good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Luke
1:54,55,66-75 KJV
54 He hath helped His servant
Israel, in remembrance of His mercy;
55 As He spake to our fathers, to
Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
66 And all they that heard them laid
them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be!
And the hand of The Lord was with him.
67 And his father Zacharias was
filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
68 Blessed be The Lord God Of
Israel; for He hath visited and redeemed His people,
69 And hath raised up an horn of
salvation for us in the house of His servant David;
70 As He spake by the mouth of His
holy prophets, which have been since the world began:
71 That we should be saved from our
enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;
72 To perform the mercy promised to
our fathers, and to remember His holy covenant;
73 The oath which He sware to our
father Abraham,
74 That He would grant unto us, that
we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve Him
without fear,
75 In holiness and righteousness
before Him, all the days of our life.
Luke 3:34 KJV
Which was the son of Jacob, which
was the son of Isaac, which was the son of Abraham, which was the son
of Thara, which was the son of Nachor,
John 8:33-41
KJV
33 They answered Him, We be
Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest
thou, Ye shall be made free?
34 Jesus answered them, Verily,
verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of
sin.
35 And the servant abideth not in
the house for ever: but The Son abideth ever.
36 If The Son therefore shall make
you free, ye shall be free indeed.
37 I know that ye are Abraham's
seed; but ye seek to kill Me, because My Word hath no place in you.
38 I speak that which I have seen
with My Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
39 They answered and said unto Him,
Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's
children, ye would do the works of Abraham.
40 But now ye seek to kill Me, a man
that hath told you The Truth, which I have heard of God: this did not
Abraham.
41 Ye do the deeds of your father.
Then said they to Him, We be not born of fornication; we have one
Father, even God.
Acts 3:25 KJV
Ye are the children of the prophets,
and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto
Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be
blessed.
Acts 7:4,5,32
KJV (Speaking of Abraham)
4 Then came he out of the land of
the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his
father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.
5 And he gave him none inheritance
in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he
would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him,
when as yet he had no child.
32 Saying, I am The God of thy
fathers, The God of Abraham, and The God of Isaac, and The God of
Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.
Acts 13:26 NLT
Brothers—you sons of Abraham, and
also you God-fearing Gentiles—this message of salvation has been
sent to us!
Romans 11:1 NLT
I ask, then, has God rejected His
own people, the nation of Israel? Of course not! I myself am an
Israelite, a descendant of Abraham and a member of the tribe of
Benjamin.
Hebrews 11:8-10
KJV
8 By faith Abraham, when he was
called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an
inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
9 By faith he sojourned in the land
of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with
Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:
10 For he looked for a city which
hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
Was God's promise
to Abraham, a faithful promise, yes, for his descendants are as the
stars of heaven! And this great Gods promises to us are faithful as
well!
