Bible Lesson: Scriptures For
Special Occasions: Discouragement, And Despondency.
Bible Text:
In Times Of
Discouragement;
Romans 8:31-39
KJV
31 What shall
we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32 He that
spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He
not with Him also freely give us all things?
33 who shall
lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that
justifieth.
34 Who is he
that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen
again, who is even at The Right Hand Of God, who also maketh
intercession for us.
35 Who shall
separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress,
or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or perils, or sword?
36 As it is
written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are
accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all
these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.
38 For I am
persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, or
principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height,
nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from
the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Psalm 34:17-19
NLT
17 The Lord
hears His people when they call to Him for help. He rescues them from
all their troubles.
18 The Lord is
close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are
crushed.
19 The
righteous person faces many troubles, but The Lord comes to the
rescue each time.
Psalm 55:22 KJV
Cast thy burden
upon The Lord, and He shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer
(permit) the righteous to be moved.
Psalm 147:3 KJV
He healeth the
broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
Isaiah 41:10 KJV
Fear thou not;
for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will
strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with
the right hand of My righteousness.
Isaiah 42:16 KJV
And I will
bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in
paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before
them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them,
and not forsake them.
Matthew 11:28
KJV
Come unto Me,
all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Galatians 6:9
KJV
And let us not
be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint
not.
I Peter 1:6-9
KJV
6 Wherein ye
greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in
heaviness through manifold temptations:
7 That the
trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that
perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise
and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
8
Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see Him not,
yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
9 Receiving the
end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
In Times Of
Despondency:
Psalm 34:1-22
KJV
1 I will bless
The Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul shall
make her boast in The Lord: the humble shall hear thereof, and be
glad.
3 O magnify The
Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.
4 I sought The
Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
5 They looked
unto Him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.
6 This poor man
cried, and The Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
76 The Angel Of
The Lord encampeth round about them that fear Him, and delivereth
them.
8 O taste and
see that The Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.
9 O fear The
Lord, ye His saints: for there is no want to them that fear Him.
10 The young
lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek The Lord shall
not want any good things.
11 Come, ye
children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of The Lord.
12 what man is
he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep thy
tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
14 Depart from
evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
15 the eyes of
The Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are open unto their
cry.
16 The face of
The Lord is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of
them from the earth.
17 The
righteous cry, and The Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all
their troubles.
18 The Lord is
nigh unto them that are of a broken heart: and saveth such as be of a
contrite spirit.
19 Many are the
afflictions of the righteous: but The Lord delivereth him out of them
all.
20 He keepeth
all His bones: not one of them is broken.
21 Evil shall
slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate.
22 The Lord
redeemeth the soul of His servants and none of them that trust in
Him shall be desolate.
I Corinthians
15:57 KJV
But thanks be
to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
II Corinthians
4:16-18 KJV
16 For which
cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward
man is renewed day by day.
17 For our
light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a more
exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
18 While we
look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are
not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but
the things
which are not seen are eternal.
II Thessalonians
3:3 KJV
But The Lord is
faithful, who shall establish you, and keep you from evil.
II Timothy 4:18
KJV
Yes, and The
Lord will deliver me from every evil attack and will bring me safely
into His heavenly Kingdom. All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
I Peter 1:3-9
:NLT
3 All praise to
God, The Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by His great mercy
that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from
the dead. Now we live with great expectation,
4 and we have a
priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for
you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.
5 And through
your faith, God is protecting you by His power until you receive this
salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to
see.
6 So be truly
glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many
trials for a little while.
7 These trials
will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire
tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than
mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it
will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus
Christ is revealed to the whole world.
8 You love Him
even though you have never seen Him. Though you do not see Him now,
you trust Him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy.
9 The reward
for trusting Him will be the salvation of your souls.
I Peter 5:7 KJV
Casting all
your care upon Him; for He careth for you.
I John 4:4 NLT
But you belong
to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those
people, because The Spirit who lives in you is greater than the
spirit who lives in the world.
Discouragement, and despondency, do not, come from The Lord! These
things come from the enemy
of our souls.
John 10:10 KJV
The thief
cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy, I am come
that they might have Life, and that they might have it more
abundantly.
When feeling discouraged or despondent, read and reread the promises
of The Lord, promises that are yours, if you are a child of God!
Prayer:
Colossians
3:15 NLT
And
let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For
as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be
thankful.
