Pentecost - Why Did Peter Quote Joel's Prophecy?
Bible Questions Answered:
“Why did Peter quote the prophecy of
Joel?...”
Lauren/ Tulsa Oklahoma U.S.A.
Bible Answer:
Bible Texts:
First)
The spiritual revival, the spiritual
refreshing that came on this day, certainly was a fulfillment of
Joel's prophecy. And Joel's prophecy may also be true for the turning
to The Lord during the coming tribulation time, as well!
At Pentecost:
This revival, this spiritual awakening
was “not,” the worked up campaign of men, but of God's doing!
Acts 3:19 KJV
Repent ye
therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when
the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of
The Lord.
Revival comes,
when in our repentance of sin, and longing for Gods grace, we enter
The Presence Of The Lord.
Second)
Peter's explanation as to what and why things were happening, was
Joel's prophecy.
Acts 2:17,18 KJV
And it shall come to pass in the
last days, saith God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh:
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your
young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream
dreams:
18 And on My servants and on My
handmaidens I will pour out in those days of My Spirit; and they
shall prophesy:
Joel 2:28,29 KJV
28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out My
Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall
prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams,
your young men shall see visions:
29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days
will I pour out My Spirit.
Thirdly)
Peter quoted from
Joel's prophecy to call all to salvation through Jesus Christ.
Acts 2:21 KJV
And it shall come to pass, that
whosoever shall call on the name of The Lord shall be saved.
Joel 2:32 NLT
But everyone who calls on the name
of The Lord will be saved..."

For Revival:
Deuteronomy 4:29
KJV
But if from thence thou shalt seek
The Lord thy God, thou shalt find Him, if thou seek Him with all thy
heart and with all thy soul.
II Chronicles
7:14 KJV
If My people, which are called by My
name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn
from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will
forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
II Chronicles
29:3-11 NLT (Hezekiah Reopens the Temple)
3 In the very first month of the
first year of his reign, Hezekiah reopened the doors of the Temple of
The Lord and repaired them.
4 He summoned the priests and
Levites to meet him at the courtyard east of the Temple.
5 He said to them, “Listen to me,
you Levites! Purify yourselves, and purify the Temple of The Lord,
The God of your ancestors. Remove all the defiled things from the
sanctuary.
6 Our ancestors were unfaithful and
did what was evil in the sight of The Lord our God. They abandoned
The Lord and His dwelling place; they turned their backs on Him.
7 They also shut the doors to the
Temple’s entry room, and they snuffed out the lamps. They stopped
burning incense and presenting burnt offerings at the sanctuary of
The God Of Israel.
8 “That is why The Lord’s anger
has fallen upon Judah and Jerusalem. He has made them an object of
dread, horror, and ridicule, as you can see with your own eyes.
9 Because of this, our fathers have
been killed in battle, and our sons and daughters and wives have been
captured.
10 But now I will make a covenant
with The Lord, The God Of Israel, so that His fierce anger will turn
away from us.
11 My sons, do not neglect your
duties any longer! The Lord has chosen you to stand in His presence,
to minister to Him, and to lead the people in worship and present
offerings to Him.”
Psalm 34:15,18
KJV
15 The eyes of The Lord are upon the
righteous, and His ears are open unto their cry.
18 The Lord is nigh unto them that
are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Psalm 51:17 KJV
The sacrifices of God are a broken
spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Psalm 80:7 KJV
Turn us again, O God of Hosts, and
cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
Psalm 85:6 KJV
Wilt thou not revive us again: that
thy people may rejoice in thee?
Proverbs 8:17
KJV
I love them that love Me; and those
that seek Me early shall find Me.
Isaiah 55:6,7
KJV
6 Seek ye The Lord while He may be
found, call ye upon Him while He is near:
7 Let the wicked forsake his way,
and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto The
Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will
abundantly pardon.
Isaiah 66:2 KJV
"...to this man will I look,
even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at
My Word.
Jeremiah 3:22
NLT
“My wayward children,” says The
Lord, “come back to Me, and I will heal your wayward hearts.”
“Yes, we’re coming,” the people reply, “for you are The Lord
our God.
Jeremiah
29:12-14 KJV
12 Then shall ye call upon Me, and
ye shall go and pray unto Me, and I will hearken unto you.
13 And ye shall seek Me, and find
Me, when ye shall search for Me with all your heart.
14 And I will be found of you, saith
The Lord..."
Hosea 10:12 NLT
I said,‘Plant the good seeds of
righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of love. Plow up the hard
ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek The Lord, that He
may come and shower righteousness upon you.’
Joel 2:12,13 KJV
12 Therefore also now, saith The
Lord, turn ye even to Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and
with weeping, and with mourning:
13 And rend your heart, and not your
garments, and turn unto The Lord your God: for He is gracious and
merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth Him of
the evil.
(He is eager to relent and not
punish NLT)
Jonah 3:6-10 KJV
6 For word came unto the king of
Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him,
and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 And he caused it to be proclaimed
and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his
nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any
thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
8 But let man and beast be covered
with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every
one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
9 Who can tell if God will turn and
repent, and turn away from His fierce anger, that we perish not?
10 And God saw their works, that
they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that
He had said that He would do unto them; and He did it not.
Habakkuk 3:2 NLT
I have heard all about you, Lord. I
am filled with awe by your amazing works. In this time of our deep
need, help us again as you did in years gone by. And in your anger,
remember your mercy.
Zechariah 1:3
KJV
Therefore say thou unto them, Thus
saith The Lord Of Hosts; Turn ye unto Me, saith
The Lord Of Hosts, and I will turn
unto you, saith The Lord Of Hosts.
Friends, let there
be “no-doubt,” we need revival, renewal, and restoration.
I Corinthians
10:12 KJV
Wherefore let him that thinketh he
standeth take heed lest he fall.
Hosea 10:12 KJV
Sow to yourselves in righteousness,
reap in mercy; break up your fallow (hard) ground: for it is time to
seek The Lord, till He come and rain righteousness upon you.
II Corinthians
7:10 KJV
For Godly sorrow worketh repentance
to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world
worketh death.
