(Why was the word “substance,” used in the KJV Bible?)

It was more clearly understood in the day, but not not in ours.

Hebrews 11:1 KJV
Now faith is the substance* of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

*Substance-Greek: Hupostasis (Hoop-os'-tas-is_ Assurance, confidence, confident.
(Strong's Concordance-5287)

Substance:
[the] assurance
ὑπόστασις (hypostasis)
Noun - Nominative Feminine Singular
Strong's Greek 5287: From a compound of hupo and histemi; a setting under, i.e. concretely, essence, or abstractly, assurance.

Well than knowing this, let us read Hebrews 11:1 again!

Hebrews 11:1 KJV
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

This is exactly how all the translations above have translated it.

Is substance, some mysterious miraculous ingredient, we must look for to do the miraculous? No!

Prayer:

John 5:39 KJV
Search The Scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of Me.

Acts 17:11  NLT
And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched The Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching The Truth.
