Bible Questions Answered:
“What are the greater works Jesus spoke about, that can be done?...”
Glenda/ Gilbert, Arizona  U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

John 14:12 KJV
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father.

It  was never intended by our Lord, to be recognized as merely a miracle worker. His miracles were to awaken followers, to the fact, that He was The Son Of God, and that by believing in Him, have eternal life.

John 3:1,2,15 KJV
1  There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto Him, Rabbi, we know that thou art A Teacher Come From God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with Him.
15 That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.

“Greater Works Than These”
Giving Out The Gospel Message.

John 16:5-11 NLT (The Work of the Holy Spirit)
5 “But now I am going away to The One who sent me, and not one of you is asking where I am going.
6 Instead, you grieve because of what I’ve told you.
7 But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, The Advocate* won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send Him to you.
8 And when He comes, He will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.
9 The world’s sin is that it refuses to believe in Me.
10 Righteousness is available because I go to The Father, and you will see Me no more.
11 Judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged.

* The Advocate- Or Comforter, or Encourager, or Counselor. Greek reads Paraclete.

John 16:8 GNT
And when He comes, He will prove to the people of the world that they are wrong about sin and about what is right and about God's judgment.

John 16:8 CEV
The Spirit will come and show the people of this world The Truth about sin and God’s justice and the judgment.

John 16:8 ERV
“When The Helper comes, He will show the people of the world how wrong they are about sin, about being right with God, and about judgment.

John 16:8 GNT
“And when He has come He will convince the world of its sin, and of the availability of God’s goodness, and of deliverance from judgment.[

The Blessed Holy Spirit through preaching and witnessing of The Gospel, will enlighten the consciences of listeners as to spiritual truth.

What is greater? Someone who is healed of a bad cold, or some one coming to The Lord for salvation?
And so after Pentecost and the infilling and empowering of The Holy Spirit, what happened?

Scores of people were healed.   No, that's not what the book of Acts tells us!

Acts 2:37-41 NLT (Peter's Pentecost Sermon verses 14-36)
37 Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”
38 Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive The Gift of The Holy Spirit.
39 This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by The Lord our God.”
40 Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation!”
41 Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.

This, the evangelical call of every Christian, is the “Greater Work,” our Lord refers to.

Matthew 28:18-20 KJV
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mark 16:15 KJV
15 And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach The Gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Prayer:

Acts 13:47 NLT
For The Lord gave us this command when He said, ‘I have made you a light to the Gentiles, to bring salvation to the farthest corners of the earth.’
