Bible Questions Answered:
“My question is why was David called a man after God's own heart?...”
Mandy/ Chicago, Illinois U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

Acts 13:22 NLT
But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after My own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.

David was a man who believed The Lord, and who stood for Him. Did David sin, yes and he was a terrible sinner, and yet when his sins were made known to him, he did not try to justify himself, rather he confessed his sin and sought repentance before The Lord.

Was David disciplined for his sins, yes!

Proverbs 3:11,12 NLT
11 My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline, and don’t be upset when He corrects you.
12 For The Lord corrects those He loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.

In discipline, David sought to stay close to The Lord.

If we sin, does God discipline us, yes, if we are His child!

Hebrews 12:1-13 NLT (God’s Discipline Proves His Love)
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, The Champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting Him, He endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now He is seated in The Place Of honor Beside God’s Throne.
3 Think of all the hostility He endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.
4 After all, you have not yet given your lives in your struggle against sin.
5 And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as His children? He said, “My child, don’t make light of The Lord’s discipline, and don’t give up when He corrects you.
6 For The Lord disciplines those He loves, and He punishes each one He accepts as His child.”
7 As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as His own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father?
8 If God doesn’t discipline you as He does all of His children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really His children at all.
9 Since we respected our earthly fathers who disciplined us, shouldn’t we submit even more to the discipline of The Father of our spirits, and live forever?
10 For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in His holiness.
11 No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.
12 So take a new grip with your tired hands and strengthen your weak knees.
13 Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame will not fall but become strong.

The Word; Discipline:

Deuteronomy 8:5,6 NLT
5 Think about it: Just as a parent disciplines a child, The Lord your God disciplines you for your own good.
6 “So obey the commands of The Lord your God by walking in His ways and fearing Him.

Job 5:17 NLT
“But consider the joy of those corrected by God! Do not despise the discipline of The Almighty when you sin.

Psalm 94:12 NLT
Joyful are those you discipline, Lord, those you teach with your instructions.

Psalm 119:75 NLT
I know, O Lord, that your regulations are fair; you disciplined me because I needed it.

Proverbs 6:20-23 NLT
20 My son, obey your father’s commands, and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.
21 Keep their words always in your heart. Tie them around your neck.
22 When you walk, their counsel will lead you. When you sleep, they will protect you. When you wake up, they will advise you.
23 For their command is a lamp and their instruction a light;
their corrective discipline is the way to life.

Proverbs 12:1 NLT
To learn, you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction.

Ephesians 6:4 KJV
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of The Lord.

Revelation 3:19 NLT (The Message to the Church in Laodicea)
I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.

Faithful Followers Of The Lord, Are Blessed Followers:

Isaiah 40:31 NLT
But those who trust in The Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Isaiah 41:10 NLT
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with My victorious right hand.

Jeremiah 29:11 NLT
For I know the plans I have for you,” says The Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

John 10:10 KJV
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

James 1:25 NLT
But if you look carefully into the perfect Law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

Prayer:

Psalm 119:67,68 NLT
67 I used to wander off until you disciplined me; but now I closely follow your Word.
68 You are good and do only good; teach me your decrees.
