Bible Questions Answered:
“What is a ordinance?...”
Kelly/ Ashburn, Virginia U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

Ordinance:
Something ordained or decreed by...deity.
Merriam-Webster.Com

Ordinance:
Something believed to have been ordained, as by a deity...
Dictionary.Com

The church of The Lord Jesus Christ, has two ordinances, Baptism, and The Lord's Supper.

Decrees of The Lord Jesus...

BAPTISM:

Matthew 28:19 KJV
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Ghost:

COMMUNION:

I Corinthians 11:23-25 KJV
23 For I have received of The Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that The Lord Jesus the same night in which He was betrayed took bread:
24 And when He had given thanks, He brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is My body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of Me.
25 After the same manner also He took the cup, when He had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in My Blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of Me.

Baptism, and Communion, are not sacraments, that Is they “do not,” take away sin, but are symbols of our being made in the likeness of Christ, and remembering what He has done for us.

Baptism, speaks of the death burial and resurrection of The Lord Jesus. As Christians, we have, through our repentance and faith in The Lord, died to sin, under the water in baptism, is a likeness to that of death, and being raised up out of the water, from death to self and the world, raised up into newness of life, the life of The Lord Jesus.

Baptism, by believers, is a picture of what has taken place in the life of The Lord, and a symbol, of what is taking place in the life of the believer.

Baptism is a symbol, not a sacrament, people don't get “born-again,” by being baptized.\
Baptism, is something that born-again people do, because they have been called to do so by our Lord.
Baptism is a public confession of our faith.
Baptism is only done once, at the beginning of our new walk with The Lord.

Galatians 2:20 KJV
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of The Son Of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.

Galatians 3:27 KJV
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Galatians 5:24 KJV
And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Who should be baptized (by immersion, as was our Lord)?

Acts 8:36-38 KJV (Philip and the Eunuch)
36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

Could a baby do this? Of course not, babies are dedicated to The Lord, not baptized.

Communion, is something done often, a symbol, an ordinance not a sacrament. Some churches have communion every Sunday, others once a month.

Communion is “a remembrance” as the apostle Paul, plainly states.
Communion Bread, speaks of the broken Body of our Lord, given in sacrifice for us.
Communion Wine, speaks of the shed Blood of our Lord, given in sacrifice for us.

Are Baptism and, Communion, necessary for salvation? No!

And yet, faithful living Christian people, are commanded to do them, by our Lord.

The thief on the cross, never had communion, neither was he ever baptized, and yet our Lord told him...

Luke 23:43 KJV
And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

Matthew 7:24-27 KJV
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of Mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise 0
man, which built his house upon A Rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon A Rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of Mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
