Bible Questions Answered:
“If
God rested on the Sabbath, I see a lot of church people working on
Sunday...”

Bible Answer:
Bible Texts:
The
Sabbath:
Genesis 2:2,3 KJV
2
And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He
rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.
3
And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in
it He had rested from all His work which God created and made.
Exodus 20:8-11 KJV
8
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9
Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:
10
But the seventh day is the sabbath of The Lord Thy God: in it thou
shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy
manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger
that is within thy gates:
11
For in six days The Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that
in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore The Lord blessed
the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
OK, there should absolutely be no work on the Sabbath, right? Wrong!
“Who
said so?”
Jesus said so!
Mark 2:23-28 NLT (A Discussion about the Sabbath)
23
One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grain fields, His
disciples began breaking off heads of grain to eat.
24
But the Pharisees said to Jesus, “Look, why are they breaking the
law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?”
25
Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read in the Scriptures what
David did when he and his companions were hungry?
26
He went into the house of God (during the days when Abiathar was high
priest) and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that
only the priests are allowed to eat. He also gave some to his
companions.”
27
Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the
needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the
Sabbath.
28
So The Son Of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!”
Our Lord, did not institute the Sabbath to take all precedence over
man, but to serve him.
Our Lord, did not come to give His life for the Sabbath, He came to
give His life for men and women.
There are no days of exclusion, regarding the doing of good works!
John 5:1-18 NLT (Jesus Heals a Lame Man)
1
Afterward Jesus returned to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish holy
days.
2
Inside the city, near the Sheep Gate, was the pool of Bethesda, with
five covered porches.
3
Crowds of sick people—blind, lame, or paralyzed—lay on the
porches.
5
One of the men lying there had been sick for thirty-eight years.
6
When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked
him, “Would you like to get well?”
7 “I
can’t, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me
into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets
there ahead of me.”
8
Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!”
9
Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and
began walking! But this miracle happened on the Sabbath,
10
so the Jewish leaders objected. They said to the man who was cured,
“You can’t work on the Sabbath! The law doesn’t allow you to
carry that sleeping mat!”
11
But he replied, “The Man who healed me told me, ‘Pick up your mat
and walk.’”
12
“Who said such a thing as that?” they demanded.
13
The man didn’t know, for Jesus had disappeared into the crowd.
14
But afterward Jesus found him in the Temple and told him, “Now you
are well; so stop sinning, or something even worse may happen to
you.”
15
Then the man went and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who
had healed him.
(Jesus Claims to Be The Son Of God)
16
So the Jewish leaders began harassing Jesus for breaking the Sabbath
rules.
17
But Jesus replied, “My Father is always working, and so am
I.”
18
So the Jewish leaders tried all the harder to find a way to kill Him.
For He not only broke the Sabbath, He called God His Father, thereby
making Himself equal with God.
Our God is “always working?”
Yes, that's right. Let that come as no surprise, for He is
maintaining His creation, and He is providing for His
creation, every hour of every day!
Abraham, knew this...
Genesis
22:7-14 KJV
7
And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he
said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood:
but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
8
And Abraham said, My son, God will provide Himself a
lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
9
And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham
built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his
son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
10
And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his
son.
11
And The Angel Of The Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said,
Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
12
And He said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any
thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou
hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from Me.
13
And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a
ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the
ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.
14
And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah
jireh*: as it is said to this day, In the mount of The
Lord it shall be seen.
* Jehovahjireh-Hebrew: YHovih Yireh (Yeh-ho-vaw' yir-eh):
Jehovah will see (to it). Jehovah-Jireh (Genesis 22:8 KJV "God
will provide.")

And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not
arrayed like one of these.
30
Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is,
and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall He not much more clothe
you, O ye of little faith?

good things to them that ask Him?

Timothy 3:16,17 KJV
16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness:
17
That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all
good works.
Sunday is our day of rest, in honoring The Lord. Will there be works
that must be done, yes some must be. The hospital, must not close,
our church is to remain open. Good things must go on being done.
Luke
13:15 KJV
The
Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one
of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and
lead him away to watering?
Luke
14:5 KJV
And
answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen
into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?
No labor, around the house or car, etc. meditation on God's Word,
with Christian friends, and church, yes.
Take
time To Be Holy
Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.
Make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak,
Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.
Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.
By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.
Take time to be holy, let Him be thy Guide;
And run not before Him, whatever betide.
In joy or in sorrow, still follow The Lord,
And, looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word.
Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul,
Each thought and each motive beneath His control.
Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.
