Bible Questions Answered:
“I went to my sons commencement and the speaker went on for some time, talking about people lying and not telling the truth. Should this have been their kind of talk?...”
Walter/ Breckenridge/ Texas

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

If we live in a world that is becoming more and more dishonest, yes that is something that is very important, to be discussed.

Psalm 12:1-8 NLT
1 Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth!
2 Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts.
3 May The Lord cut off their flattering lips and silence their boastful tongues.
4 They say, “We will lie to our hearts’ content. Our lips are our own—who can stop us?”
5 The Lord replies, “I have seen violence done to the helpless, and I have heard the groans of the poor. Now I will rise up to rescue them, as they have longed for Me to do.”
6 The Lord’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over.
7 Therefore, Lord, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation,
8 even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land.

What was it Jesus said....

John 14:6 KJV
Jesus saith unto him, I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life: no man cometh unto The Father, but by Me.

II Corinthians 8:21 KJV (The Apostle Paul)
Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of The Lord, but also in the sight of men.

Psalm 36:1,2 NLT

Exodus 20:16 NLT
You must not testify falsely against your neighbor.

Leviticus 19:35,36 NLT
35 “Do not use dishonest standards when measuring length, weight, or volume.
36 Your scales and weights must be accurate. Your containers for measuring dry materials or liquids must be accurate.
I am The Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

Psalm 37:21 KJV
The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.

Psalm 63:11 KJV
But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.

Psalm 101:7 KJV
He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within My house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in My sight.

Proverbs 6:16-19 NLT
16 There are six things The Lord hates— no, seven things He detests:
17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent,
18 a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong,
19 a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.

Proverbs 10:9 NLT
People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed.

Proverbs 11:1,3 NLT

5 The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
22 Lying lips are abomination to The Lord: but they that deal truly are His delight.

Proverbs 13:5 KJV
A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

Proverbs 14:5,25 KJV
5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.
25 A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.

5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
9 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.

Proverbs 20:10,14,17,23 NLT
10 False weights and unequal measures— The Lord detests double standards of every kind.
14 The buyer haggles over the price, saying, “It’s worthless,” then brags about getting a bargain!
17 Stolen bread tastes sweet, but it turns to gravel in the mouth.
23 The Lord detests double standards; He is not pleased by dishonest scales.

Jeremiah 9:4-6 NLT

Matthew 5:33-37 KJV
33 Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto The Lord thine oaths:
34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:
35 Nor by the earth; for it is His footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of The Great King.
36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

Matthew 6:1,2 KJV
1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

11 And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?
12 And if you are not faithful with other people’s things, why should you be trusted with things of your own?

Luke 18:9-14 KJV
9 And He spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

43 Why do ye not understand My speech? even because ye cannot hear My Word.
44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in The Truth, because there is no Truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45 And because I tell you The Truth, ye believe Me not.
46 Which of you convinceth Me of sin? And if I say The Truth, why do ye not believe Me?

9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

The Father also.

8 “But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
