Bible Lesson: Cherished Promises To
The Child Of God: To Those Who Are Repentant.
Bible Text:
Isaiah 55:7 KJV
Let the
wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous
man his thoughts: and let him return unto The Lord, and He will have
mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.
The Lord's Request:
Let the
wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous
man his thoughts: and let him return unto
The Lord,
The Lord's Promise:
and He will
have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.
Repent:
The word "repent," appears no less than some 60 times, in
our New Testament, here is but a sampling of those verses.
Matthew 4:17 KJV
From that time
Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent*: for
the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
*Repent-Greek: Metanoeo (Met-an-o-eh-o): To think differently,
reconsider, feel compunction, repent.
Compunction:
A feeling of uneasiness or anxiety of the conscience caused by regret
for doing wrong or causing pain; contrition; remorse.
Repentance is an 180°
turn around, an about face from the sins of the past, living a new
life in Christ.
Repentance is forsaking (Abandoning) old ways, and living a new life
in Christ.
Repentance is “not,” confessing our sins to someone and doing
penance, while not forsaking (abandoning) them, only to do
them again and again!
Matthew 9:13 KJV
But go ye and
learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I
am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Matthew 11:20,21
KJV
20 Then began
He to upbraid the cities wherein most of His mighty works were done,
because they repented not:
21 Woe unto
thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works,
which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would
have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
Matthew 12:41
KJV
The men of
Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall
condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and,
behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
Matthew 21:28-32 NLT (Parable of the Two Sons)
28 “But what
do you think about this? A man with two sons told the older boy,
‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.’
29 The son
answered, ‘No, I won’t go,’ but later he changed his mind and
went anyway.
30 Then the
father told the other son, ‘You go,’ and he said, ‘Yes, sir, I
will.’ But he didn’t go.
31 “Which of
the two obeyed his father?”
They replied,
“The first.”
Then Jesus
explained his meaning: “I tell you The Truth, corrupt tax
collectors and prostitutes will get into the Kingdom of God before
you do. 32 For John the Baptist came and showed you the right way to
live, but you didn’t believe him, while tax collectors and
prostitutes did. And even when you saw this happening, you refused to
believe him and repent of your sins.
Mark 2:17 KJV
When Jesus
heard it, He saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the
physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous,
but sinners to repentance.
Mark 6:7,12 NLT
6 “...Then
Jesus went from village to village, teaching the people.
7 And He called
His twelve disciples together and began sending them out two by
two..."
12 So the
disciples went out, telling everyone they met to repent of their sins
and turn to God.
Luke 3:3,8 KJV
And He came
into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of
repentance for the remission of sins;
8 Bring forth
therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within
yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That
God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
Luke 5:32 KJV
I came not to
call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Luke 10:13 KJV
Woe unto thee,
Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been
done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great
while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
Luke 11:32 KJV
The men of
Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall
condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold,
a greater than Jonas is here.
Luke 13:1-5 NLT
1 About this
time Jesus was informed that Pilate had murdered some people from
Galilee as they were offering sacrifices at the Temple.
2 “Do you
think those Galileans were worse sinners than all the other people
from Galilee?” Jesus asked. “Is that why they suffered?
3 Not at all!
And you will perish, too, unless you repent of your sins and turn to
God.
4 And what
about the eighteen people who died when the tower in Siloam fell on
them? Were they the worst sinners in Jerusalem?
5 No, and I
tell you again that unless you repent, you will perish, too.”
Luke 15:7,10 KJV
7 I say unto
you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that
repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no
repentance.
10 Likewise, I
say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over
one sinner that repenteth.
Luke 24:45-47
KJV

He their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
46 And said

repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among
all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

thou the riches of His goodness and forbearance and long suffering;

II Corinthians 7:8-10 NLT (Paul)
8 I am not
sorry that I sent that severe letter to you, though I was sorry at
first, for I know it was painful to you for a little while.
9 Now I am glad
I sent it, not because it hurt you, but because the pain caused you
to repent and change your ways. It was the kind of sorrow God wants
His people to have, so you were not harmed by us in any way.
10 For the kind
of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and
results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow.
But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual
death.
II Peter 3:9 KJV
The Lord is not
slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is
long suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but
that all should come to repentance.

great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

3:3,19 KJV
3 Remember
therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and

19 As many as I
love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Revelation
9:20,21 KJV
And the rest of
the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of
the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and
idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which
neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
21 Neither
repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their
fornication, nor of their thefts.

power over these plagues: and they repented not to give Him glory.

blasphemed The God Of Heaven because of their pains and their sores,
and repented not of their deeds.

way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to

Prayer:
Isaiah 55:6 KJV
Seek ye The Lord while He may be
found, call ye upon Him while He is near:
Hebrews 4:7
Again, He
limiteth a certain day, saying in David, Today, after so long a time;
as it is said, Today if ye will hear His voice, harden not your
hearts.

13 They are
reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or
plan, but a birth that comes from God.
Almost Persuaded
“Almost persuaded” now to believe;
“Almost persuaded” Christ to receive;
Seems now some soul to say,
“Go, Spirit, go Thy way,
Some more convenient day
On Thee I’ll call.”
“Almost persuaded,” come, come today;
“Almost persuaded,” turn not away;
Jesus invites you here,
Angels are lingering near
Prayers rise from hearts so dear;
O wanderer, come!
“Almost persuaded,” harvest is past!
“Almost persuaded,” doom comes at last!
“Almost” cannot avail;
“Almost” is but to fail!
Sad, sad, that bitter wail—
“Almost,” but lost!
