Bible Questions Answered:
“...so
our church is telling people they must all have their time at the
mission to help out I guess that would be the kitchen. I have no
wish to do this and I'm sure some others do not either...”

Bible Answer:
Bible Texts:
One
does “not,” need to think of some third world country to realize
the needy! In America we have countless people that qualify.
In Los
Angeles, there are some 44,000 homeless, with some 4,600 vehicles
lining the streets of L.A., with everything from campers, buses, cars
etc. etc. with people living in them.
Currently
Los Angeles is in the processes of passing legislation making live in
-parking on city streets a misdemeanor.
All one
has to do is to open their eyes, to see the needy, because they are
everywhere.
Does a
Christian person, have any responsibility to the needy?
The Needy:
Leviticus 19:9,10 NLT
9 “When you harvest the
crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your
fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop.
10 It is the same with
your grape crop—do not strip every last bunch of grapes from the
vines, and do not pick up the grapes that fall to the ground. Leave
them for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I am The Lord
your God.
Deuteronomy 15:7,8,11 KJV
7 If there be among you a
poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land
which The Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine
heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother:
8 But thou shalt open
thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for
his need, in that which he wanteth.
11 For the poor shall
never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou
shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy
needy, in thy land.

from oppression and violence, for their lives are precious to Him.

field, saith The Lord Of Hosts.

away.
Matthew 6:1-4,19-21 KJV
1 Take heed that ye do
not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no
reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when thou
doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the
hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may
have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3 But when thou doest
alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4 That thine alms may be
in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret Himself shall reward
thee openly.
19 Lay not up for
yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth
corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your
treasure is, there will your heart be also.

sheep at His right hand and the goats at His left.

say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father,
inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the
world.
35 For I was hungry, and
you fed Me. I was thirsty, and you gave Me a drink. I was a stranger,
and you invited Me into your home.
36 I was naked, and you
gave Me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for Me. I was in prison,
and you visited Me.’
37 “Then these
righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry
and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 Or a stranger and show
you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing?
39 When did we ever see
you sick or in prison and visit you?’
40 “And The King will
say, ‘I tell you The Truth, when you did it to one of the least of
these My brothers and sisters, you were doing it to Me!’
41 “Then The King will
turn to those on the left and say, ‘Away with you, you cursed ones,
into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons.
42 For I was hungry, and
you didn’t feed Me. I was thirsty, and you didn’t give Me a
drink.
43 I was a stranger, and
you didn’t invite Me into your home. I was naked, and you didn’t
give Me clothing. I was sick and in prison, and you didn’t visit
Me.’
44 “Then they will
reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a
stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’
45 “And He will answer,
‘I tell you The Truth, when you refused to help the least of these
My brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help Me.’
46 “And they will go
away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal
Life.”
Mark
12:41-44 NLT (The Widow’s Offering)
41 Jesus sat down near
the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in
their money. Many rich people put in large amounts.
42 Then a poor widow came
and dropped in two small coins
43 Jesus called His
disciples to Him and said, “I tell you
The Truth, this poor
widow has given more than all the others who are making
contributions.
44 For they gave a tiny
part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything
she had to live on.”

given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and

measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Luke 14:12-14 NLT

host. “When you put on a luncheon or a banquet,” He said, “don’t
invite your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. For
they will invite you back, and that will be your only reward.
13 Instead, invite the
poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.
14 Then at the
resurrection of the righteous, God will reward you for inviting those
who could not repay you.”
Acts 4:32-35 NLT
(The Believers Share Their Possessions)
32 All the believers were
united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not
their own, so they shared everything they had.
33 The apostles testified
powerfully to the resurrection of
The Lord Jesus, and God’s
great blessing was upon them all.
34 There were no needy
people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell
them
35 and bring the money to
the apostles to give to those in need.
Acts 20:35 KJV
I have shewed you all
things, how that so laboring ye ought to support the weak, and to

necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Their only suggestion was
that we keep on helping the poor, which I have always been eager to
do.

But if any provide not
for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied
the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
I Timothy 6:17-19 NLT
17 Teach those who are
rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money,
which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly
gives us all we need for our enjoyment.
18 Tell them to use their
money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to
those in need, always being ready to share with others.
19 By doing this they
will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future
so that they may experience true Life.
Titus 2:14 NLT
He gave His Life to free
us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own
people, totally committed to doing good deeds.

Pure religion and
undefiled before God and The Father is this, To visit the fatherless
and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from
the world.
James 2:1-6,14-17 NLT
(Faith without Good Deeds Is Dead)
1 My dear brothers and
sisters, how can you claim to have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus
Christ if you favor some people over others?
2 For example, suppose
someone comes into your meeting dressed in fancy clothes and
expensive jewelry, and another comes in who is poor and dressed in
dirty clothes.
3 If you give special
attention and a good seat to the rich person, but you say to the poor
one, “You can stand over there, or else sit on the floor”—well,
4 doesn’t this
discrimination show that your judgments are guided by evil motives?
5 Listen to me, dear
brothers and sisters. Hasn’t God chosen the poor in this world to
be rich in faith? Aren’t they the ones who will inherit the Kingdom
He promised to those who love him?
6 But you dishonor the
poor! Isn’t it the rich who oppress you and drag you into court?
14 What good is it, dear
brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it
by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?
15 Suppose you see a
brother or sister who has no food or clothing,
16 and you say, “Good-bye
and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t
give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?
17 So you see, faith by
itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and
useless.
I John 3:17,18 KJV
17 But whoso hath this
world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his
bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
18 My little children,
let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in Truth.
Our
Lord, expects from us as Christians, gifts and help for the needy,
and as much as we have and will do it to them, we do it to our
blessed Lord, Himself.
Prayer:
John 1;12,13 KJV
12 But as many as received Him, to
them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that
believe on His name:
13 Which were born, not of blood,
nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Oh Lord,
may our heart, be as yours, turning none away, but receiving one and
all, in love and care.
Amen
