Bible Lesson: Cherished Promises To The Child Of God: To Those Who Are Blind
Bible Lesson: Cherished Promises To
The Child Of God: To Those Who Are Blind
Bible Text:
Luke 18:35-43 KJV
35 And it came
to pass, that as He was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man
sat by the way side begging:
36 And hearing
the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
37 And they
told him, that Jesus Of Nazareth passeth by.
38 And he
cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son Of David, have mercy on me.
39 And they
which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he
cried so much the more, Thou Son Of David, have mercy on me.
40 And Jesus
stood, and commanded him to be brought unto Him: and when he was come
near, He asked him,
41 Saying, What
wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may
receive my sight.
42 And Jesus
said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
43 And
immediately he received his sight, and followed Him, glorifying God:
and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.
The Lord's Request:
What wilt
thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I
may receive my sight.
The Lord's Promise:
And Jesus said
unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
What can the
miracle of sight be compared to? We may be able to live OK without
one or more of thee other senses, but without sight, we are
totally dependent upon others.
No less is this true of spiritual sight.
Spiritual
Sight Versus Spiritual Darkness:
Psalm 19:8 KJV
The statutes of
The Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of The Lord
is pure, enlightening the eyes.
Psalm 36:9 KJV
For with thee is the fountain of Life: in thy Light shall we see
Light.
Psalm 63:2 KJV
To see thy
power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
Psalm 119:18 KJV
Open thou mine
eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.
Psalm 146:8 KJV
The
Lord openeth the eyes of the blind: The Lord raiseth them that are
bowed down: The Lord loveth the righteous:
Isaiah 35:5 KJV
Then the eyes
of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be
unstopped.
Matthew 13:10-17
KJV
10 And the
disciples came, and said unto Him, Why speakest thou unto them in
parables?
11 He answered
and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the
mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
12 For
whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more
abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even
that he hath.
13 Therefore
speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing
they hear not, neither do they understand.
14 And in them
is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias (Isaiah),
which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and
seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
15 For this
people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing,
and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see
with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with
their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
16 But blessed
are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
17 For verily I
say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to
see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear
those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
Matthew 15:12-14
KJV
12 Then came
His disciples, and said unto Him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees
were offended, after they heard this saying?
13 But He
answered and said, Every plant, which My Heavenly Father hath not
planted, shall be rooted up.
14 Let them
alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the
blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
Mark 8:17,18 KJV
17 And when
Jesus knew it, He saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no
bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart
yet hardened?
18 Having eyes,
see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
Luke 4:18,19 KJV (Jesus)
18 The Spirit
Of The Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the
gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to
preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the
blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach
the acceptable year of The Lord.
Luke 24:31 KJV
And their eyes
were opened, and they knew Him; and He vanished out of their sight.
John 9:39 KJV
39 And Jesus
said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not
might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
40 And some of
the Pharisees which were with Him heard these words, and said unto
Him, Are we blind also?
41 Jesus said
unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say,
We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
John 12:35,36
KJV
35 Then Jesus
said unto them, Yet a little while is The Light with you. Walk while
ye have The Light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh
in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 While ye
have Light, believe in The Light, that ye may be the children of
Light. These things spake Jesus, and departed...”
Acts 26:18 KJV
To open their
eyes, and to turn them from darkness to Light, and from the power of
Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and
inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in Me.
Acts 28:27 KJV
For the heart
of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing,
and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their
eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and
should be converted, and I should heal them.
Romans 11:7-10
NLT
7 So this is
the situation: Most of the people of Israel have not found the favor
of God they are looking for so earnestly. A few have—the ones God
has chosen—but the hearts of the rest were hardened.
8 As the
Scriptures say, “God has put them into a deep sleep.
To this day He
has shut their eyes so they do not see, and closed their ears so they
do not hear.”
9 Likewise,
David said, “Let their bountiful table become a snare, a trap that
makes them think all is well. Let their blessings cause them to
stumble, and let them get what they deserve.
10 Let their
eyes go blind so they cannot see, and let their backs be bent
forever.”
I Corinthians
2:6-16 KJV
6 Howbeit we
speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this
world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
7 But we speak
the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God
ordained before the world unto our glory:
8 Which none of
the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not
have crucified The Lord Of Glory.
9 But as it is
written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into
the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that
love Him.
10 But God hath
revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for The Spirit searcheth all
things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man
knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him?
even so the things of God knoweth no man, but The Spirit Of God.
12 Now we have
received, not the spirit of the world, but The spirit which is of
God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of
God.
13 Which things
also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but
which
The Holy Ghost
teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the
natural man receiveth not the things of The Spirit Of God: for they
are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are
spiritually discerned.
15 But he that
is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16 For who hath
known the mind of The Lord, that he may instruct Him? but we have the
mind of Christ.
II Corinthians
3:16-18 KJV
16 Nevertheless
when it (someone NLT)
shall turn to The Lord, the veil shall be taken away.
17 Now The Lord
is that Spirit: and where The Spirit Of The Lord is, there is
liberty.
18 But we all,
with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of The Lord, are
changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by The
Spirit Of The Lord.
II Corinthians
4:3-6,18 NLT
3 If the Good
News we preach is hidden behind a veil, it is hidden only from people
who are perishing.
4 Satan, who is
the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t
believe. They are unable to see the glorious Light of the Good News.
They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who
is the exact likeness of God.
5 You see, we
don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus
Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake.
6 For God, who
said, “Let there be Light in the darkness,” has made this Light
shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in
the face of Jesus Christ.
18 So we don’t
look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on
things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be
gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
Ephesians 1:18
KJV
The eyes of
your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the
hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His
inheritance in the saints,
Ephesians
4:17,18 KJV
17 This I say
therefore, and testify in The Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as
other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 Having the
understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through
the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their
heart:
Ephesians 5:8
KJV
For ye were
sometimes darkness, but now are ye Light in the Lord: walk as
children of Light:
I Peter 2:9 KJV
But ye are a
chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar
people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called
you out of darkness into His marvelous Light;
II Peter 1:5-9
KJV
5 And beside
this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue
knowledge;
6 And to
knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience
godliness;
7 And to
godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
8 For if these
things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be
barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 But he that
lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath
forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
I John 3:2,3 KJV
2 Beloved, now
are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be:
but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we
shall see Him as He is.
3 And every man
that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as He is pure.
How important, indeed is spiritual sight, for without it, we walk in
spiritual blindness, and destruction.
John 3:3 KJV
Jesus answered
and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be
born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Luke 18:41 KJV
What wilt thou
that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my
sight.
May we always make It our prayer, that our spiritual eyes may be open
to see and understand The Truth of God's Word.
Amazing
Grace
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but
now I see.
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.
