Bible Lesson: Church Symbol: Pomegranate-The

Bible Lesson: Symbols Of The Church Of Jesus Christ.

Church Symbol: Pomegranate.

Pomegranate: A round fruit with a red, leathery rind and many seeds covered with red, juicy, edible flesh.
(New World Dictionary)

Figures of pomegranates were carved at the tops of the pillars in Solomons Temple.

I Kings 7:18,20 NLT
18 He also encircled the latticework with two rows of pomegranates to decorate the capitals over the pillars.
19 The capitals on the columns inside the entry room were shaped like water lilies, and they were six feet tall.
20 The capitals on the two pillars had 200 pomegranates in two rows around them, beside the rounded surface next to the latticework.

Pomegranates in blue, purple and scarlet, were on the hem of the robe of the ephod, which was the robe of the High Priest.

Exodus 28:33,34 NLT
31 “Make the robe that is worn with the ephod from a single piece of blue cloth,
32 with an opening for Aaron’s head in the middle of it. Reinforce the opening with a woven collar so it will not tear.
33 Make pomegranates out of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and attach them to the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them.
34 The gold bells and pomegranates are to alternate all around the hem.
35 Aaron will wear this robe whenever he ministers before the Lord, and the bells will tinkle as he goes in and out of the Lord’s presence in the Holy Place. If he wears it, he will not die.

Well, what is the symbolic meaning?
The Pomegranate, because of it's over abundance of seeds, speaks of life, and Immortality.
Life of course, is in the seed.

The Word of God tells us:
Man's physical life, did not come from some pond scum, it came from the Lord!

Genesis 2:7 KJV
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Acts 17:
[24] God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that He is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
[25] Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though He needed any thing, seeing He giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;
[26] And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

Man's spiritual life comes from God.
As the lowly seed is the means of a plants "new birth."
Faith in Christ is the means of man's "new birth."

Deuteronomy 8:3 KJV
And He humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that He might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

Luke 18:28-30 KJV
[28] Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee (The Lord Jesus Christ).
[29] And He said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,
[30] Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come
life everlasting.

John 3:3,14-18,36 KJV
[3] Jesus answered and said unto him (Nicodemus), Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
[14] And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
[15] That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
[16] For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
[17] For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
[18] He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
[36] He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

John 5:24 KJV
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

John 10:27,28 KJV
[27] My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me:
[28] And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of
My hand.

John 11:25 KJV
Jesus said unto her (Martha), I am the Resurrection, and the Life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

John 17:3 KJV
And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only True God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Romans 6:20-23 KJV
[20] For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
[21] What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
[22] But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
[23] For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

II Timothy 1:8-10 KJV
[8] Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
[9] Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own Purpose and Grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
[10] But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

I Peter 1:23 KJV
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

I John 2:24,25 KJV
[24] Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
[25] And this is the promise that He hath promised us, even eternal life.

I John 5:1,11,12 NLT
1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves His children, too.
11 And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.

Jude 21 KJV
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto
eternal life.

Dear friend, do you know this giver of eternal life?
He loves you, His name is the Lord Jesus Christ.
